Mattia Cigalini "Soul 4": Arriving Soon - Introducing Mattia Cigalini
Dieci i passaggi in scaletta, molti dei quali sono riletture di pagine di un passato poco battuto - tra gli altri troviamo brani di Victor Feldman, Bobby Watson e Oscar Pettiford - , più un paio di slanci di sicuro impatto firmati dal giovane leader. Il primo, "Ciga(R) Smoke" giocato su tempi sostenuti, colpisce per la forte impronta hardboppistica impressa da Mattia e dall'altro grande protagonista di questa incisione, Fabrizio Bosso, in vena di interventi decisivi; il secondo, la ballad "If You Believe," emana una melodia che ti si mette piacevolmente addosso come quel caldo maglione che in inverno non vorresti mai togliere.
Difficile trovare punti deboli in Arriving Soon, un album che grazie a un lavoro in studio svolto in maniera diretta (si tratta praticamente di sole prime take) ha mantenuto la brillantezza dell'esecuzione e l'ispirazione necessaria per andare ben oltre le consuetudini.
