Miguel Zenon: Alma adentro: The Puerto Rican Songbook
La musica tradizionale di Porto Rico viene prima riattualizzata secondo l'ottica del jazz, poi (ri)considerata alla luce di sinuose sonorità classiche grazie agli archi. La sintesi è suggestiva oltre che ben realizzata, offrendo un quadro diverso dai modelli stereotipati. Ne vien fuori un avvolgente ritratto d'autore che racconta in musica due mondi l ontani ma incredibilmente vicini, dove il rigore formale si integra a meraviglia con l'abbandono espressivo.
Un'opera magnificamente ideata ancorchè magistralmente realizzata, dall'alto di un piglio appassionato ed appassionante, tutto giocato su sapidi contrasti dinamici e di atmosfere. C'è spazio per il solido interplay jazzistico ma anche per una pronuncia eurocolta degli strumenti, liberi di agire oltre le gabbie ritmiche ripetitive lungo articolate progressioni armoniche. Senza ricorrere ad un approccio dissacrante o iconoclasta, Zenon sa come saldare creativamente due culture diverse apportandovi un contributo originale.
