Lauren Kinsella - Alex Huber: All This Talk About

Trenta minuti trenta che danno una già sufficiente idea della bontà di due nomi relativamente nuovi nell'entourage della musica improvvisata contemporanea.

Lei è Lauren Kinsella, irlandese di quelle giuste da molti anni di stanza a Londra, capace di usare la voce nell'acrobatica strada che alcune capostipiti come Lauren Newton (nella peculiare jazz-way della Vienna Art Orchestra anni '80) o Meredith Monk (nell'universo del nuovo "suono vocale" che affronta i temi del sospiro e del respiro) hanno già sondato nel recente passato.

Lui invece è Alex Huber, ennesima stella elvetica di buona grandezza, allievo di Pierre Favre e attivo con diversi musicisti emergenti dell'universo della musica "intelligente" continentale odierna.

Il vocalismo della Kinsella è di quelli sillabanti, ove la voce spesso articola il suono, giocando a spirale con forme canore più consuete, spezzandone però metrica e forme armoniche.

Il risultato è un interessante viaggio al limite fra il vocal jazz e l'improvvisazione radicale. Energetica e sicuramente comunicativa, la voce contrappone variegati tappeti ritmici mai scontati, affascinando per calore e profondità, scalando vette - brano dopo brano - sino a giungere all'orgasmica title-track finale che connota questo CD come uno dei più interessanti nei vasti territori delle musiche di confine attuali.

Un corretto fiume vocale narrativo che, come nei casi citati per gli ovvi rimandi stilistici, attraversa diverse utilizzazioni dello strumento vocale puro (per intenderci senza mai sconfinare nei vertici di ricerca fonetica di Stratos tanto per fare un nome), giocando con liriche astratte (evocate e ispirate dai piccoli poemi di Ted Hughes inseriti nel patchwork "Hawk in the Rain") spesso con costruzioni che rimandano al mondo infantile.

Il dialogo però regge e incuriosisce e troviamo immensamente corretta la scelta di "limitare" il progetto discografico a non più di mezz'ora: meno sarebbe stato troppo poco; più sarebbe stato troppo.

E resta, possiamo assicurarlo, la voglia di ascoltare presto altre avventure di questi due signori.

Mica grulli, direbbero in Toscana.
