There is no place to hide in a solo recording — no rhythm section to carry a faltering line, no
second voice to answer a question left open. ONE VOICE gathers twelve unaccompanied performances
from the Not Two catalog: twelve musicians, no voice heard twice, spanning twenty years and
ranging from baritone saxophone to baroque violin. The program's spine is a run of strings — a
wife and husband (Maya Homburger and Barry Guy), then three double basses in succession — and it
closes with twins: Marcin Oleś on bass, his brother Bartłomiej Brat Oleś with the final quiet word
on drums. Heard together, these pieces form a portrait of what this music finally rests on: not
the ensemble, not the tradition, but the single decision, made in real time, alone.
