Album Description

A representative sampling of the guitarists early recordings for Vanguard (and a few later ones as well), it chronicles what one of the musicians who presided over the birth of jazz-rock fusion was up to before that blessed event. Theres a healthy dose of jazz scattered among these fifteen tracks; the presence of major players such as Elvin Jones and Jimmy Garrison, not to mention Coryells own virtuosity, guarantees that. But this is by no means a straight jazz compilation. While youll hear traces of Jim (as in Hall), theres also more than a little Jimi (as in Hendrix); along with the Wes (Montgomery), theres plenty of the West (coast). Neither just a jazzbo or a rocker, Larry Coryell just plays his guitar; he plays it loud or soft, fast or slow, alone or with others. Albums represented here include: Lady Coryell, Larry Coryell & The Eleventh House At Montreux and Planet End.
