Francesco Cafiso: A Tribute to Charlie Parker - Francesco Cafiso & Strings

C’è chi dice che suonare bene da piccoli, non vuol dire suonare ancora meglio da grandi. Ed è vero, anzi, è sacrosanto. Per diventare grandi musicisti occorre che il tempo porti con sé una necessaria maturazione, perché arriverà il giorno in cui, purtroppo o per fortuna, non si verrà più considerati dei “fenomeni”, ma si dovrà affrontare il paragone hic et nunc, senza se e senza ma, con gli colleghi musicisti. Francesco Cafiso, a quanto pare, non era un fuoco di paglia. Questo A tribute to Charlie Parker. Francesco Cafiso & Strings prodotta da Umbria Jazz Records e Giottomusic, dimostra che Cafiso, non solo suona bene “per essere un ragazzino di 17 anni”, ma suona bene e basta. Senza se e senza ma, appunto.

Il disco è un tributo a “Bird”, per il cinquantenario della sua dipartita, eseguito col supporto della raffinata orchestra de I solisti di Perugia, più Simone Frondini all’oboe e corno inglese, Luciano Capogrossi al corno francese, Laura Vinciguerra all’arpa, e gli inseparabili Riccardo Arrighini al piano, Aldo Zunino al contrabbasso, e Stefano Bagnoli alla batteria. I brani, diciotto in tutto, sono di breve durata (il più lungo, “They Can’t Take Away From Me”, arriva appena oltre i tre minuti e cinquanta), e ripropongono fedelmente gli arrangiamenti usati dallo stesso Parker.

I temi vengono esposti dal sassofonista siciliano con una buona linearità, con qualche “feel”, e sempre con estrema cantabilità. Gli assoli dimostrano come Cafiso sia capace di maturare rapidamente, a distanza di pochissimo tempo, lavorando sempre meglio sull’improvvisazione tonale e sull’articolazione frasale in genere. Si avverte quel quid che rende le linee solistiche “fresche”, giovani, un po’ irriverenti, com’è il carattere del giovane jazzista.

La simpatia, l’energia e il virtuosismo, uniti a quel po’ di sfrontatezza tipica degli animi in crescita, fanno di Francesco Cafiso un talento fresco, vivace, che non stanca mai. E così il suo disco, un compendio dei temi più cari a “Bird”, con l’omaggio finale, “Prayer for Charlie”, che Francesco dedica personalmente al Maestro.
