Tra il Craig David più ispirato e il Marvin Gaye più sensuale, V traccia la linea del suo confine artistico. Ma va anche oltre e l’album di debutto è il banco di prova per le ambizioni di chi vuole puntare davvero in alto, nell’olimpo del R&B, spesso troppo patinato, spesso anche sopravvalutato e pieno di repliche, inutili.

Prodotto da Dj Jazzy Jeff e da Pete Kuzma, il CD mostra in undici brani un campionario di possibilità sospeso tra il moderno R&B e il Philly soul vecchia maniera. Atmosfere patinate, compassate, senza increspature né soluzioni esasperate che contribuiscono a costruire un CD dai toni crepuscolari e dal mood intimistico.

Se “Intro” lo spinge nei territori simil crooner, “Confess”, “Picture This”, “Best Friend”, “Hey Pretty Girl”, “Would You Be Mine” si fissano nella memoria canterina con la leggerezza di una giornata primaverile.

Gli dà una mano (non di poco conto) Jill Scott in “Born Again”.

The Revelation Is Now Televised se punta decisamente al formato canzone, è anche un altro esempio di come la grande tradizione del soul (Gaye, Wonder, Hathaway, Withers, Al Green) sia ancora un patrimonio inestimabile e fonte di continua ispirazione.
