Kevin Coelho: Turn It Up

Dopo l'esordio discografico ad appena 16 anni (Funkengruven—the Joy of Driving a B3, Chicken Coup Records 2012) Kevin Coelho ripropone il trio con gli stessi partner per una nuova carrellata di brani eseguiti sotto il segno del funk e del groove.
Se quanto espresso allora in termini di padronanza musicale e feeling poteva bastare per un giudizio positivo, ora che Kevin sta uscendo dalla prima adolescenza non basta più e ci aspetteremmo qualche progresso. Per la verità in questo disco non si notano significative novità mentre si conferma la tendenza a presentare un prodotto di facile lettura, che indulge nel concentrato di effetti elaborato in mezzo secolo di gruppi organo/chitarra.

Alcuni hanno messo in relazione la figura di Coelho con quella di Joey DeFrancesco ma ci sono sostanziali differenze. Anche quest'ultimo venne alla ribaltà giovanissimo (aveva 17 anni quando Miles Davis lo scritturò per un breve ingaggio) ma la tecnica di Joey era comunque prodigiosa.

A voler scegliere tra le esecuzioni di questo disco finiamo per preferire intramontabili classici come "Georgia on My Mind" che contiene anche un lungo assolo del chitarrista Derek DiCenzo.
Piuttosto: perché né lui né il batterista Reggie Jackson sono indicati in alcun punto della copertina?
