Los Angeles-based jazz vocalist Amber Weekes has returned with a remarkable new musical project that showcases her immense talent and deep appreciation for classic American jazz storytelling. To Oscar With Love serves as her fifth album release and continues her tradition of artistic excellence on her own Amber Inn Productions record label. Executive produced by Weekes herself and skillfully produced by Mark Cargill, the record brings together a stellar lineup of talent to honor a true legend of American culture: Oscar Brown Jr.. Throughout the project, listeners are treated to wonderful musicianship featuring guitarist Paul Jackson Jr, pianist Tony Campodonico, and additional vocal work by Adam "Aejaye" Jackson, among others who help bring each arrangement to life.

The album opens with an excellent rendition of the song "Mr. Kicks" setting an energetic and engaging tone for the musical journey ahead. From the very first notes, Weekes proves that she understands how to command a groove and draw the listener straight into the heart of the performance. The 12 songs featured on the album were all written by Brown the noted poet, songwriter, and activist, whose brilliant catalog continues to resonate across generations. Weekes handles this rich material with total mastery, choosing songs that highlight both her vocal control and her profound emotional connection to the lyrics.

As the album unfolds, Weekes displays her remarkable range as both a singer and a narrator. She has a truly beautiful voice, and her powerful rendition of the song "Strong Man" perfectly reflects her musical gifts as a brilliant storyteller. Moving through the tracklist, she also explores different moods and tones, such as on the song "But I Was Cool," which shows Weekes' ability to deliver a witty and sexy song with style and grace. Every track feels purposeful, allowing her voice to dance smoothly across complex rhythms and thoughtful arrangements while maintaining an intimate connection with the audience.

Among the many highlights is the deeply moving track "Brown Baby," which is presented with the same emotional impact of Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit." On this number, Weekes is truly at her best, pouring her heart into every phrase and giving the lyrics a haunting, unforgettable resonance. Shifting gears entirely, the song "Hazel's Hips" is reminiscent of the sounds found during a 1960s rent party. Meaning, the vibrant energy of the track meets all expectations of music that truly swings.

Another deeply personal inclusion is "The Snake," the very composition that originally introduced Weekes to Brown's work when she was a child. The whole album is filled with excellent song choices from Oscar Brown Jr.'s catalog in which Weekes delivers on to perfection, honoring his legacy while stamping the music with her own unique artistic identity. By blending rich history, stellar musicianship, and heartfelt vocal performances, she has crafted a wonderful work of art. Music lovers will surely enjoy this album for years to come.
