Nell’intento di dar voce e spazio ai musicisti ebrei e israeliani, John Zorn ospita nella serie Radical Jewish Culture Time Petah-Tiqva, lavoro primo del fisarmonicista e compositore istraeliano Boris Malkovsky.

La suite, per bayan (fisarmonica a bottoni) e quartetto d’archi con l’aggiunta di un contrabbasso, mescola musica tradizionale ebraica a temi jazz con motivi classici e zigani ed è stata commissionata dal Tel Aviv Chamber Music Ensemble per i membri della Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Dramma e armonia vengono facilmente associate in un quella chiave espressiva tipica della musica tradizionale yiddish. Non manca nulla, ma nulla viene tuttavia aggiunto.

Nell’universo Tzadik Time Petah-Tiqva è un bel lavoro, raffinato, accurato, preciso, fuori da esso, è privo di una certa verve, che una melodia quale quella proposta - sul finire anche decisamente troppo romanticheggiante - dovrebbe aver impressa.
