Ryan Blotnick: The Woods

L'ascolto di The Woods, quinta fatica discografica, dopo una decina di anni di silenzio come leader del chitarrista Ryan Blotnick, trasporta l'ascoltatore in una dimensione atemporale, una bolla protetta dalle insidie, dal frastuono e dalle brutture che lo circondano. Il quartetto si muove discreto, con passi felpati ma soprattutto si pone al servizio della chitarra di Blotnick che si rivela il cuore dell'incisione. Non tanto per l'esibizione di abilità tecniche, comunque presenti, ma piuttosto per il focus sulle sonorità morbide e ovattate che si ritrovano in ciascuna delle dieci tracce del disco.

I brani, che vanno dai due minuti scarsi di "Nettuno 2000" ai sette minuti e trenta di "Pecao," si sviluppano in una sorta di suite minimalista, dai connotati melodici, con linee semplici e temi accattivanti nei quali echi country e richiami folk incontrano eleganti e delicate improvvisazioni jazz.

La sezione è discreta quanto basta, piano e organo si alternano creando perlopiù sonorità vintage, la chitarra libera sonorità che trascendono il fraseggio ed evocano idilliaci paesaggi. The Woods è un album rassicurante, palesa un suono impeccabile ma scivola via leggero, galleggiando in superficie senza scatenare emozioni da ricordare.
