Cobblestone Jazz: The Modern Deep Left Quartet

Gli appassionati più intransigenti forse avranno a che ridire sulla presenza della parola "jazz" nel nome di questa formazione techno, giunta con The Modern Deep Left Quartet al suo secondo disco. Non c'è molto jazz infatti nella musica del trio, ora diventato quartetto con l'ingresso di un vecchio amico come Colin de la Plante, o perlomeno non ce ne sono gli elementi lessicali, anche se va sottolineata una particolare attenzione a sonorità organiche e timbriche calde.

Il disco è piuttosto ascrivibile a una techno che flirta di volta in volta con influssi analogici, levità nu-jazz, roboticità funk che scolorano in tramonti balearici, incursioni electro adamantine, vocoder eighties. Tutto giocato con molto gusto e con una semplicità di fondo che si traduce in immediatezza e danzabilità, in efficacia e potenza.

Tra le cose più interessanti certamente "Mr. Polite" e le increspature futuribili di "Cromagnon Man," ma anche l'onirica gommosità di "Fiesta" cattura al primo ascolto. Non originalissimo, ma un bell'anticipo delle notti più dense dell'estate.
