Cheryl Bentyne: The Gershwin Songbook
Tutto ciò si porta dietro, quasi fisiologicamente, una sub stantia che sa di cliché, di disimpegno, di entertainment, di efficienza/brillantezza un po' vacue, di protocollo, per quanto - anzi: in quanto - di totale pertinenza/ortodossia linguistico-espressiva. Le cose migliori sembrano arrivare da un "Summertime" condotto quasi in falsetto su un arrangiamento più asciutto che altrove (con Gordon primattore) e da un "The Man I Love" virato verso il manouche (qui è Peplowski a distinguersi, oltre ovviamente alla chitarra di Koonse).
In conclusione, un album per patiti del genere, o per chi ami circondarsi di un jazz inteso come spezia discreta e aproblematica, ingrediente più che piatto forte (o magari unico...), mezzo e non fine. Per tutti gli altri il suggerimento è di passare tranquillamente oltre.
