Bobby Bradford, Frode Gjerstad Quartet: The Delaware River

Sono più di trent'anni che le strade di Bobby Bradford e Frode Gjerstad si incrociano continuamente, dall'esordio nei Details di John Stevens per arrivare alla manciata di ottimi CD incisi in trio o in quartetto. Risulta così del tutto normale l'alto grado di intesa che si percepisce tra i due lungo i quaranta minuti scarsi di questa registrazione live del 2014, intesa esaltata ulteriormente dalla ritmica strepitosa composta da Frank Rosaly e da Ingebrigt Håker Flaten.

Nulla di mirabolante o clamoroso ma i due assicurano un moto perpetuo di sollecitazioni, di indizi, di suggerimenti, di sostegno a volte sanguigno altre più trattenuto, fondale perfetto per le scorribande dei due fiati. Cerebrale Gjerstad -uso massiccio di sovracuti, suono siderale, fraseggio tagliente come un rasoio -, umorale Bradford -cornetta che sa di blues, di strade impolverate, di lunghi pomeriggi oziosi e sonnolenti in riva al Mississippi. Ed entrambi in possesso della preziosa arte della pazienza, della nota giusta al momento giusto, dell'essenzialità come credo espressivo.

The Delaware River contiene musica per certi versi misteriosa, affascinante nei suoi contrasti (ir)risolti, appagante nella sua molteplicità di lettura. Raccomandato.
