Nicole Metzger and The New York Connection: That's What I Want To Do
A distanza di otto anni dal debutto con questa formazione (At Any Other Time), la cantante tedesca torna con un pregevole lavoro registrato a Colonia nel dicembre 2010, consistente in temi originali scritti in prevalenza da Joe Fonda e Michael Jefry Stevens.

La carriera artistica della Metzger è iniziata nella seconda metà degli anni Novanta ed ha prodotto un considerevole numero di opere in differenti organici: il duo col chitarrista Wesley G, il quartetto "French Connection" con l'organista Jean-Yves Jung, il contrabbassista Rudi Engel e il batterista Jean-Marc Robin ed altri ancora.

Le qualità di Nicole Metzger sono la forma vocale duttile ed esuberante, il vivace slancio improvvisativo e la padronanza ritmica. Sostenuta da partner di prim'ordine come il pianista Michael Jefry Stevens, il contrabbassista Joe Fonda e il batterista Harvey Sorgen le sue doti emergono al meglio portandola a realizzare un lavoro a un tempo significativo e godibile. L'estetica dominante è un jazz moderno capace di trarre linfa dalla tradizione afro-americana ma animato da una verve contemporanea: un album brillante e vario dove non mancano brani piacevolmente swinganti come "Love, Dear?" di Stanley Turrentine, intime ballad ("Lost Love,""I Found You" di Jefry Stevens) interpretate con passione ed altri ritmicamente variopinti ("That's What I Want To Do," "Cajun Blue," "I've Been Singing All Day Long") di Joe Fonda.
