Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats

Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats ("WELC") are a jazz fusion and jam band bringing elements of both into their unique live performance style, original compositions and unorthodox arrangements. Born out of the basements and dive-bars of Fells Point (Baltimore, MD), the Cats have evolved into an independent recording and live act with a fast growing following in the local mid-Atlantic music scene while also gaining international recognition since their debut studio release in 2020. They have released three studio albums and maintain regular residencies at local jazz and blues venues.

"Gunnhildr" Live at The Watermelon Room

Featuring the music of Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats
Duration: 2:14

Following the success of their third studio album The Watermelon Sessions (released 2023), Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats return to the studio where it all began to record a live performance of their original song “Gunnhildr”. The studio, known as the Watermelon Room (based out of Baltimore, MD), became a critical element in the band’s evolution into jazz fusion, allowing them the space and presence to explore, test, and ultimately discover themselves through a shared musicianship. The album and its tracks pay homage to that journey as live performers and studio musicians. The featured song demonstrates the band’s unique ability at bending genres into a powerful array of sounds, and the composition draws inspiration from old Norse folklore and mythology. The video was recorded by Marshall Veth and the audio mixed by Garrett Long, their original engineer (and founder) of the Watermelon Room.

Fantasy

Featuring the music of Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats
Duration: 10:08

Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats are an Americana jam/jazz sextet born in the living rooms and dive bars of the Fells Point district in Baltimore, MD. The band released their first full length record, Le Cirquez, in December of 2019, but the post production led into the COVID-19 pandemic and the Cats found themselves unable to promote the record through live shows, struggling in an environment unfortunately familiar to so many musicians and performers at the time. In the midst of this uncertainty, a long-time artistic collaborator and friend of the Cats, Michael Ivan Schwartz of Loud Communications, approached the band about doing music videos as a way to adapt to the lockdown and keep the music alive. Thanks to Schwartz's direction and the band's shared artistic vision, Fantasy garnered much attention upon its release, and was selected for the 2021 London Music Video Festival. The song and video features guest vocal appearance from Katie Bowers.
