David Bowie

Born: January 8, 1947

David Robert Jones was born in Brixton on January 8, 1947. At age 13, inspired by the jazz of the London West End, he picked up the saxophone and called up Ronnie Ross for lessons. Early bands he played with – The Kon-Rads, The King Bees, the Mannish Boys and the Lower Third –provided him with an introduction into the showy worlds of pop and mod, and by 1966 he was David Bowie, with long hair and aspirations of stardom rustling about his head. Kenneth Pitt signed on as his manager, and his career began with a handful of mostly forgotten singles and a head full of ideas. It was not until 1969 that the splash onto the charts would begin, with the legendary Space Oddity (which peaked at #5 in the UK)

Minjung Lee Jazz vocalist South Korean jazz vocalist, Minjung Lee searches for composing her own songs and for adapt different styles of music in jazz. She has a bright color of voice and owns good classical techniques, which make her sing from low notes to high notes without difficulties, and perform different kinds of music : french chansons, gospels, and other well-known standards including the traditionnal music of her origin. She sings this repertoire in jazz style with her own interpretation, in different languages such as English, French, Korean, Spanish, Italian or Brazilian. After her studies at I.A.C.P., CIM, Conservatoire de Bourg La Reine, Conservatoire de Cachan, and Conservatoire de Villepinte, Minjung Lee has been singing in Paris in quartet since 2006 with Andrea CAMPAGNOLO (guitar), Kentaro SUZUKI (doublebass), and Wesley BARBE (drums)

“Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 60’s, I was surrounded by an incredible music scene that offered such a diversity of musical genres that on any given night, you could see artists such as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Tower Of Power, Cal Tjader and Miles Davis, to name a few. The Fillmore and Winterland were in their full glory, and I was fortunate to see some of the top bands of the day there. We used to go to high school dances in Oakland to see Santana, Tower Of Power, and Creedence Clearwater Revival before they hit it big. Just an amazing era!

“Early on, I was absolutely knocked out by many of the British bands, particularly Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Animals, The Zombies, The Hollies, and of course, the Beatles. Gerry Marsden of Gerry & The Pacemakers was actually the first singer whom I tried to emulate. Around 1968, an older friend turned me on to a radio station broadcasting from Oakland. I think the station was KSOL or something like that. It was all soul all the time and it really caught my ear! I couldn’t hear enough Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Jerry Butler, the Impressions, the Drifters, Aretha Franklin, and so many others.” "Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Kenny Rankin, Bobby Caldwell and Donnie Hathaway were kinda my guys in the 70's and I stole as much from them as I was able to."
