Coco Rouzier

Born: April 14, 1966

BIO BIO Coco Rouzier has been pouring out her own special brew of straight-ahead swinging Jazz with a delicious blend of the Blues and Old-School Soul for audiences all over the world for almost 15 years. Her music was received well from the Apollo Theatre in New York City to Hot Brass Jazz Club in France and so many 5 star hotels and resorts in-between. Born in the capitol of the United States of America—Washington, DC, Coco began her career by imitating the sounds that came from her mother. Coco sang in the Concert Choir at Kelly Miller Jr. High School under the tutelage of Mrs. Thomasina Portis who taught Coco about connecting with the audience. It was winning an amateur singing contest at Howard University that lead her straight to the Apollo Theater in New York City where she performed on “It's Showtime at the Apollo”. New York City did eventually become her home, as well as the place where she discovered jazz and started to swing with The Jerry Kravat NY Orchestra (now called Tribeca Rhythm) for New York’s high society

LD Frazier

LD Frazier was born in Cleveland and grew up in Buffalo. When he was 12 he moved to Los Angeles to live with his Grandparents. As a teenager he moved to Detroit, where he sang with the Richard Green’s Acapells, a harmony ensemble. LD went to New York to study piano and classical singing. After working as a pop, funk and jazz singer, in 1974 LD decided to devote his life to full-time gospel singing. From his base in New York, LD takes his gospel show throughout the world. LD has sung in Brazil, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Egypt and Europe, as well as regular visits to the United Kingdom. For over 30 years LD has toured the world with his witness in song, and has inspired whole generations of singers through workshops and concerts.

Lorraine Foster

In her late teens, Lorraine succumbed to her passion and became a vocalist with the Art Hallman Orchestra, which allowed her the freedom to craft her own style of vocal purity and armed with a formidable repertoire, Lorraine started touring nationally as a soloist. For several years, her home base was Montreal where Lorraine took time to have a family. She continued to headline at all the top venues and was a staple at the legendary Biddles, as well as a favorite for frequent radio and television appearances

Jeannie Gagné

A world-class vocalist, Jeannie Gagné has sung with Philip Glass, opened for Bare Naked Ladies, performed for NBC-TV with comedians Penn and Teller, toured with reggae legend Frankie Paul, and sings on the soundtrack for the feature film "Anima Mundi" (1993). She has received extensive press coverage such as feature stories on PBS's All Things Considered and the CBS Evening News. Literally singing with the soundtrack of West Side Story before she learned to speak and writing songs since toddlerhood, Jeannie has always known that music is her life. A veteran performer, Jeannie is a voice professor at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she teaches voice and performance in pop/rock, blues, jazz, folk, and classical styles

Frank Senior

Frank Senior blind from birth, is a native New Yorker and was raised in Harlem where jazz played a major role in his musical career. His style of music is jazz, blues, standards and gospel, ranging from the 1930s to the present. Early on, he was influenced by artists such as Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, and Aretha Franklin. Prior to Frank’s professional career, he attended the High School of Music and Art, LaVelle School for the Blind, and New York University as a voice major. He eventually followed music a bit later in life, putting voice and acting aside to operate a newsstand, marry, and raise a family. In the early 1980s, after the birth of his daughter, he auditioned and received a small part in the movie “Turk 182.” As Frank said, “After earning this once in a life time opportunity to become a Screen Actors Guild member, I knew that this was the time to take advantage of my status and show my voice”. The Universal Jazz Center was the first of many venues throughout New York in which Frank Senior performed

Maria Speight

Born: July 4, 1958

Born in Savannah, Georgia, Maria got a head start in the world of Jazz, as her birthplace is the home of kindred brother, lyricist Johnny Mercer. Maria, being the oldest of 5 children, was the first at the age of 6 years old, when her mother thrust her onstage at her local church to sing “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands” and from that moment on, she was hooked. Her dad in his military tours had been exposed to everything from Opera to Jazz. While her mother, sometimes waiting with the children for the tours to be over, would teach Maria about Gospel music, of which she is still quite fond of singing

Helen Sachs

Born: December 17, 1934

HELEN SACHS Born in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), Helen Sachs began to study classical piano at the age of 6. She started to perform as a vocalist with her own jazz trio during High School. Inspired by singers in the forties, such as jazz vocalists Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, but also posinger Rosemary Clooney, and above all Frank Sinatra and Mel Tormé, Helen Sachs soon began making some choices and, many of those songs she chose she still sings in her current program. Today, her repertoire exhibits a great deal of influence by the modern Brazilian composers/song-writers A.C. Jobim, Edu Lobo, Ivan Lins and by the great jazz musicians/composers, such as Bill Evans, Horace Silver, Benny Golson, Miles Davis and others. In 1957, Helen Sachs moved to Germany, and in 1969, she began to perform regularly with duos, trios, small combos and big bands

Vaughnette Bigford

Born: March 12, 1974

Since her debut in 2004, Vaughnette's rich, earthy jazz vocals have been making audiences sit up and take notice…and she's been developing quite a fan club, too! She is recognised for her haunting delivery of some of the most timeless jazz standards and confesses that when she discovered jazz, she knew she had found a "home". Hailing from South Trinidad, Vaughnette's professional entry onto the jazz circuit came at the 2004 Steelpan & Jazz Festival (formerly Pan Royale) as guest vocalist with Len "Boogsie" Sharpe and Phase II Pan Groove. For three consecutive years she graced the stage at the San Fernando Jazz Festival, appearing with Carlton Alexander's Coalpot Band

Christine Capdeville

1930-1960 Betty Carter was born Lillie Mae Jones in Flint, Michigan, on May 16, 1930. Though some web sources will list 1929 as her year of birth 1930 is the actual year Betty Carter was born. Her birth name was Lilly Mae Jones and she was born in Flint Michigan on May 16. She grew up in Detroit where her father James Jones worked as the musical director at the local church there. Lily-Mae sang at the Hartford Avenue Church: Its pastor was reverend Charles A. Hill a central figure in Detroit's early civil rights struggle. Her Mother Bessie was a woman who thought, like many religious African- Americans, that Jazz was "the Devil's music". Her mother would remain an active member of the N.A.A.C.P
