Aaron Bahr

Aaron Bahr is a trumpeter, composer, and teacher living and working in New York City, where he performs both as a bandleader and sideman. His latest album release is titled Places, Real and Imagined..

Since moving to New York in 2015 Bahr has performed as both a sideman and bandleader at some of the best Jazz clubs in the city, including Smalls, Fat Cat, and Zinc Bar. He was a member of the Jazz Quintet Groove Merchant, recording on their self-titled 2016 album and touring Japan in March 2017. He also performs regularly with Pianist/Composer Tetsuro Hoshii's group "The Doggy Cats." Bahr’s own current septet project features his original compositions and arrangements, played by an international cast of innovative, imaginative, and virtuosic musicians.

Aaron has also earned accolades for his big band writing, winning both the 2015 SF Jazz HUT Foundation Alumni Commission award and the 2015 Jazz in the Neighborhood Emerging Composer Competition

Summer Camargo is a 23-year-old jazz trumpeter and composer who was recently named "25 for the future" rising stars of jazz by DownBeat magazine. Summer is a native of Hollywood, Florida and a Jerome Greene Fellowship recipient at The Juilliard School, where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Summer is a regular performer at notable NYC jazz clubs like Dizzy’s and Birdland, as well as a member of the Mingus Big Band. In 2022 Summer became the newest and youngest member of the Saturday Night Live house band and is also enjoying her most recent role as a band member in Broadway’s new musical, Just in Time.

Don Sleet

Donald Clayborn Sleet was an American jazz trumpeter. He was a member of Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars and Lenny McBrowne and the Four Souls. Widely considered a gifted musician, compared to the likes of Art Farmer and Kenny Dorham, Sleet had a short career as a result of his drug abuse, recording only one album as a leader. Sleet was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on November 27, 1938. His father was a music teacher at school from whom he began to take lessons at age nine.[2] His family moved to San Diego, California, when he was ten years old. Jeffrey Morgan

Born:

Jeffrey Morgan was born in the U.S.A. in 1954. He started playing violin when he was 10 and later integrated into a youth orchestra. At 19 he was inspired by The Art Ensemble of Chicago and Sun Ra and picked up the saxophone, trumpet, clarinet and started playing the piano as well. During his university studies he organized a Freeform Music Workshop in 1975. A year later he attended the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, NY, and studied under Karl Berger, Oliver Lake and participated in workshops with Don Cherry. In 1976 he created his first compositional work for music and dance – Distress Mistress, and performed his first ensemble work, The Delirium Dimension. He also met saxophone player Bert Wilson and began a very productive collaborative musical friendship. In 1977 he created his first multi-media interdisciplinary work – Galactic Visions, a composition for music, dance, slide projectors, costumes, and light design. Morgan graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1977 with a Bachelor of the Arts degree: Studies were focused on the performing arts, e.g., music and experimental theater; and Eastern philosophy and Native American culture. In 1983 he released his first documented solo and ensemble works, "Quasar Mach", on LP. In 1984, along with Paul Hoskin, he co-founded the New Art Orchestra in Seattle, Washington. In 1987, Morgan moved to Birmingham, Alabama and worked with dancers Mary Horn and Susan Hefner; he also started an ongoing collaboration with LaDonna Smith. In 1988 he made his first pilgrimage to Europe in search of greener pastures and has since played with dozens of notable improvisors including Alan Silva, Keith Rowe, Peter Kowald, Paul Lytton and Xu Feng Xia just to name a few. From 1991 to 1996 he organized the Drang in Klang festival for experimental and improvised music, and in 1994 he established another open-door workshop for Conceptual Composition and Improvisation in Cologne, which led to invitations to lead other workshops in Bielefeld, Hamburg, Lisbon, Leeds and Wuppertal. He currently resides in Cologne, Germany.

French composer-arranger, trumpeter, ethnomusicologist, Yohan Giaume is building an oeuvre that combines his passion for world music traditions, large-scale collaborative efforts, explorations of new genres and creatively enriching partnerships with other musicians. For almost 15 years, Giaume has been traveling around the world to explore the origins and intersections of music between the Americas, Europe and Africa. His motivation is less academic and more about creating contemporary settings for vital traditions so that they continue to inform and inspire. After studying trumpet, composition, orchestration, and jazz studies at the French Conservatories of Lyon, Chambéry and Grenoble as well as Ethnomusicology at the University of Sorbonne in Paris, Giaume sought first-hand experience with music of the world

Geir Hjorthol

Geir Hjorthol was born on September 12, 1952 in Sykkylven, Norway. He started to play the trumpet in a marching band at the age of 14, but it took a few years before he started to work seriously with music – along with his academic career as a teacher and researcher of nordic literature. As a trumpet player Geir combines the sound of the trumpet with alternative playing techniques and electronic sound processing. His free improvised music is inspired by folk music and contemporary, free tonal music. The sounds of Geir’s music come not only from acoustic instruments, electronic effects and the human voice, but from nature and everyday life

Danny Jonokuchi

Danny Jonokuchi is a multi-talented jazz artist based in New York City and Los Angeles. As a jazz trumpeter, vocalist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator, few artists are as diversely involved in their craft. He has been recognized for his performance on two GRAMMY Award-Winning projects, his signature “world-class arrangements” (Broadway World), and albums he has performed on and produced. He is also a recipient of several awards including the 2024 ISJAC Wayne Shorter Jazz Arranging Prize, the 2020 ASCAP Foundation Louis Armstrong Award, and he was unanimously named the winner of the 2020 Count Basie Great American Swing Contest.
