Brian Groder

Brian Groder is rapidly becoming known as one of the most original jazz voices of his generation. Equally fluent on trumpet and flugelhorn, Groder draws on the entire jazz tradition, as well as world music influences, to create the music Cadence magazine has hailed as "tender and well delivered, with subtle and unexpected rhythmic responses." Groder's preference for working with other composer/performers gives his brand of modern progressive jazz unique improvisatory richness and depth. Kenny Rittenhouse

Born: October 2, 1966

Kenny Rittenhouse has been performing professionally for over 30 years, serving as a veteran of the U.S. Army Band (Pershing's Own) for three decades. A pivotal member of the prestigious Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, he excelled as a section player, jazz soloist, and eventually as the Element Leader, overseeing all administrative duties. Additionally, Kenny was a member of the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra (PJO), led by renowned trumpeter Sean Jones. He actively participated in PJO concerts featuring jazz legends Freddie Cole, Ahmad Jamal, and Jimmy Heath.

Kenny's musical versatility extends to the stage of musical theater, with notable performances in acclaimed productions such as Dreamgirls, Ain't Misbehavin', After Midnight, Catch Me If You Can, Chicago, Shout Sister Shout!, Play On!, The Great Gatsby, Suffs, and 1776.

Scott Forrey

Born: December 31, 1959

Scott Forrey has played trumpet with jazz, funk, Latin, and avant-garde bands for more that 25 years. He was both a student and faculty member at Berklee college of Music in the 1980s, where he studied improvisation with saxophonist George Garzone and bassist Miroslav Vitous. Among his interests are composition, arranging, and scoring film, digital recording technology, and collaborating with poets and other artists. In 1999 Scott contributed to the score of the independent British feature film MOTION, directed by Tom Clay. Vector Trio represents the culmination of years of exploration into live improvisation, musical experimentation, and electronics.

Tommy Stewart

Born: November 19, 1939

Trumpeter, pianist, arranger and composer Tommy Stewart was born on November 19th, 1939. His mother, a songwriter, vocalist and choir conductor, set him on a musical path and at the age of 10 he was in his High School marching band. He was even voted “most musical” by classmates at graduation time. Stewart taught music as a band director while performing and arranging outside of class. In 1964 he played with Fred Wesley and members of the 55th Army band. He wrote and composed for TV and played with Blue Note recording artist Duke Pearson. Tommy Stewart is best described as a quintessential musician

Alan Gaumer

Born: July 25, 1951

Alan Gaumer, trumpet, began playing the trumpet in 1958. He was a member of Kal’s Kid’s appearing on the Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour and numerous other television shows. Participating in band, orchestra, and stage bands through elementary, junior and high school he graduated from Freedom High School in 1969. He studied with John Nero and Willard Schissler and performed with the Allentown Band under the direction of Albertis L. Meyers. Alan then attended the U.S. Navy School of Music. Upon graduation he spent the next three years living in Gaeta, Italy touring Europe, Africa and Asia with the Navy Show Band

Laura Kahle

Born: January 20, 1979

Born Jan 20 1979 in Michigan, USA and moved to Australia as a baby where I lived until 2004.
Currently living in Brooklyn, NY, I recently worked with the Danish Radio Big Band in Copenhagen, arranging the music of Jeff "Tain" Watts and Michael Brecker. In 2007 I arranged the mucia of Gil Evans for the Braford Marsalis Septet, performed in the Allen Room, NYC. In 2006 I had two arrangements premiered by Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra featuring Jeff "Tain" Watts in Rose Hall, New York City.
I studied a Bachelor of Music in jazz trumpet with the great John Hoffman and a Master of Music Studies in Composition @ the QLD Conservatorium of Music

The Chance Trio

Born: March 14, 1975

An intimate and acoustic, improvisational jazz trio, The Chance Trio was born in the Spring of 2001 when trumpet player Bart Miltenberger, guitarist Matt Davis, and bassist Michael Taylor collaborated to play and develop their own original compositions. Since then the group has performed all over the Philadelphia area and beyond and was a featured act at the 3rd and 4th annual Collective Voices Festivals. The unique instrumentation of trumpet, acoustic guitar, and upright bass lends a distinctive and captivating sound to their passionate, melodic, and adventurous compositions. Drawing influences from Jazz, Blues, Folk, Rock, and the Avant-Garde, The Chance Trio were a featured act at the 2006 Festival of New Trumpet Music in New York City.

Erik Truffaz

Born: 1960

In the next step of his evolution as a pioneering jazz figure, French trumpeter Erik Truffaz continues his exploration of modern dance rhythms informed by drum ‘n’ bass and hip hop as well as gripping rock ‘n’ roll with his quartet on The Walk of the Giant Turtle. This CD is Truffaz’s fourth U.S. release, following up last year’s remarkable Mantis, and featuring a video on the making of the album. Joining Truffaz on the new disc are his long-time quartet, Patrick Muller on piano and electronic keyboards, Marcello Giuliani on bass and Marc Erbetta on drums. In a European interview Truffaz said that The Walk of the Giant Turtle (recorded in Lausanne in January 2003 and mixed in Paris) was based on ensemble improvisation

Tim Weir

Born: December 7, 1973

Dr. Tim Weir joined the faculty of the Virginia Tech music department in the fall of 2006 and holds a D.M.A from the University of Miami where he was split-lead trumpet with the award-winning University of Miami Concert Jazz Band. He has performances on multiple albums both in Australia and the USA, and has worked with Australian artists such as Glenn Shorrock, James Morrison, Don Burrows, Rob Guest, Grace Knight, and Dale Barlow. In the USA he has performed with Celia Cruz, Tito Puente Jnr, Joe Lovano, Bob Mintzer, David Liebman, Bobby Shew, Jim McNeely, Dennis Mackrell, Michael Brecker, Sam Rivers, John Fedchock, Arturo Sandoval, Bill Watrous, and Paquito D’Rivera as well as many commercial artists such as The Funk Brothers, The Osmond Family, Jack Jones and Tony Orlando. He has appeared with the Key West Pops, The Sunshine Pops Orchestra and the Miami Chamber Orchestra supporting numerous artists and has made regular appearances on television with several Miami bands
