Jazz trumpeter Josh McDonald is the Coordinator of the Jazz Ensembles at Boston University, where he directs the Wednesday Jazz Combo and the Jazz Chamber Lab, and teaches a Jazz History course entitled Jazz Now: a look at the #BAM movement. He is a member of Music Performance and Education, Inc (MP&E). Josh has performed all over the country, including at Somethin’ (NYC), Fenway Park (Boston), Bank of American Pavilion (Boston), House of Blues (Boston), the Jazz Station (Eugene, OR), and the Institute of Contemporary Art. His big band compositions have been performed by Boston University Big Band, Fresno City College Big Band, and the Nipomo High School Big Band

Mike is the Director of The Mike Vax Jazz Orchestra (MVJO), and The Mike Vax Big Band (MVBB). The Mike Vax Jazz Orchestra The current MVJO (formerly the New Oakland Jazz Orchestra) is made up of musicians from many of the most famous big bands, such as: Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Clark Terry, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Cab Calloway, Ray McKinley, and Tex Beneke. Ray Vega

A native of the South Bronx, RAY VEGA is a veteran of the bands of Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Mongo Santamaria, Mario Bauza, Luis "Perico" Ortiz, Hector LaVoe, Johnny Pacheco, Larry Harlow, Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez and Louie Ramirez to name a few. Ray has performed and/or recorded with Joe Henderson, Lionel Hampton, Mel Torme, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Israel Lopez "Cachao", The Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, The Lincoln Center Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Paul Simon, Yomo Toro, Eddie Palmieri, La Orquesta Sinfonica De Simon Bolivar, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Bebo Valdez, and Celia Cruz. Ray has now established himself as one of the innovators of the New York Jazz and Latin music scenes

Chris Kase

Born: January 31, 1964

Chris Kase (b. 1964, New Brunswick, NJ) is a jazz trumpeter, flugelhornist, composer and educator who has resided in Madrid, Spain since 1997. He has performed and/or recorded with many well known jazz artists such as: The Mingus Big Band, Adam Nussbaum, Kenny Wheeler, Bob Mintzer, The Bird of Paradise Orchestra, Steve Coleman, Chick Corea, Steve Wilson, Al Foster, Grant Stewart, Bruce Barth, Conrad Herwig, Jacob Sacks, Jamie Baum, David Berkman, Jim Rotondi, Perico Sambeat, Iñaki Salvador, Jorge Pardo and Don Braden, among others.

Presently, Chris maintains an active performance schedule throughout Spain. He is professor of jazz trumpet at Musikene, the Superior Conservatory of Music in San Sebastián.

Taylor Barnett

Born: September 19, 1980

Taylor Barnett is a Richmond, Virginia based trumpeter, teacher, and composer whose innovative work in jazz, classical, and commercial music places him on the forefront of the musical vanguard. In 2001 he was awarded First Place in the Jazz Division of the National Trumpet Competition. Taylor was a founding member of Devil’s Workshop Big Band and has has performed with the Woody Herman Orchestra, the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra, the Charlottesville Oratorio Society, and with artists such as Gladys Knight, The Temptations, Frankie Avalon, Steve Wilson, Ray Anderson, John D’earth, and René Marie

Giovanni Amato

ompositore di notevole spessore, ottimo arrangiatore, Giovanni Amato è un musicista dotato di uno swing eccezionale unito ad uno scorrevolissimo fraseggio boppistico. Il tocco morbido e potente, la musicalità versatile e spontanea sono le sue peculiarità. Giovanni Amato nasce a Nocera Inferiore in provincia di Salerno, dove inizia a suonare la tromba all'età di otto anni sotto la guida di suo padre, anch'egli musicista. E proprio ascoltando la sua collezione di dischi che presto si appassiona al jazz, e su questi incomincia ad improvvisare. Intorno ai sedici anni entra a far parte di una jazz band importante quella del noto musicista napoletano Antonio Golino "Elbas Jazz Group" che si esibisce nei più noti club di Napoli. Intanto continua anche lo studio della musica classica, diplomandosi nell'89 al conservatorio di Salerno con il massimo dei voti. Dal 1990 inizia per Giovanni un'intensa attività concertistica che lo introduce nei grandi circuiti Italiani ed internazionali. Numerose le collaborazioni con musicisti quali: Danilo Perez, Lee Konitz, Gary Peacoc, Steve Grossman, George Garzone, Bill Hart, Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Russo con la sua Chicago University Band, Tony Scott, Mike Goodrich, Ronnie Cuber, Diane Schuur,  Kirk Lightsey, Vincent Herring, Avishai Cohen, Kevin Mahogany, Richard Galliano, Bob Mover, Gene Jackson, Kenny Davis, Mahogany, Richard Galliano, Bob Mover, Gene Jackson, Kenny Davis, Giovanni Tommaso, Roberto Gatto, Maurizio Gianmarco, Dado Moroni, Rita Marcotulli, Danilo Rea, Antonio Faraò. Oltre che alle già citate performance jazzistiche Giovanni Amato ha lavorato anche nel contesto delle produzioni radiotelevisive e discografiche, facendo parte di band come quelle della nota trasmissione in onda su Rai Due "Acqua Calda", "Blue Night" su Rai Uno Insieme con Lino Patruno e Romano Mussolini, "Bellezze al Bagno" su Italiauno, "T.R.I.B.U." su Telemontecarlo, Radio due Sera Jazz e Radio tre Suite. Nel '97  al "Pippo Chennedy show" in onda su Rai Due, "Scirocco" in onda su Rai Due, "Furore" in onda su Rai Due

Jason Parra

Born: February 21, 1969

Jason Parra picked up the trumpet at the age of three; it was his father Julian’s. It was twelve years later that he would start playing the instrument in High School. It was a bit odd that Jason chose football, wrestling and track over the trumpet given that his mother and father met each other while playing in the Boise High School Band (trumpet and trombone) in Jason’s hometown of Boise, Idaho. He was a natural on the horn and after only two years of playing was the principal player in all state, all- northwest and accepted into the prestigious McDonalds All American Band and Jazz Band. As a senior he received a new trumpet for winning the solo competition at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival

Joe Smith

Born: June 28, 1902

Born in Ripley, OH, the brother of trumpeter Russell Smith. He played with small groups in St. Louis, MO then went to New York City in 1920. There he joined Kaiser Marshall's band, and accompanied Ethel Waters, Bessie Smith (whose favorite trumpet player he was) and Mamie Smith in 1922 and 1923. In 1924, he led a group backing Noble Sissie and Eubie Blake, and played off and on with Fletcher Henderson from 1925 to 1928. After playing briefly with Bennie Moten, he played intermittently with McKinney's Cotton Pickers from 1929 to 1934. In the early '30s his health started to fail and he worked infrequently, spending the last four years of his life in a Long Island, NY hospital
