Hayden Powell (1983)

Hayden Powell is a trumpet player who specialises in jazz and other types of music where improvisation is involved. Based in Oslo, Norway, Powell has worked extensively as a freelancer and a band leader, as well as writing and arranging. He also holds a part-timeteaching position at the Norwegian Academy of Music.

Powell started playing trumpet at home with his parents who are both classically trained musicians. As a child, he frequently played in church together with his father, a church organist and later with a traditional jazz band, earning him experience in performing, reading music and playing by ear. Shawn Williams

As a finalist in the 2011 National Trumpet Competition (NTC) Jazz Division, 24-year old trumpeter Shawn Williams is beginning to make a name for himself among the jazz scene. Prior to competing at NTC last spring Shawn struggled to re- learn the trumpet as he went through a drastic embouchure change and intensive dental implant surgery. Shawn questioned himself many times if he would be able to play the trumpet again, yet he still made many decisions that risked his future with music. Shawn has overcome many challenges and obstacles in a very short amount of time. He is thankful for the risks he made that have led him to the accomplishments he has achieved to this day. A native of California, Shawn grew up in the Bay Area where he was active in many youth ensembles including the San Jose Youth Symphony (SJYS) and the San Jose Youth Jazz Orchestra (SJYJO)

Keith Stout Alive Music Orchestra

In the early 1980's, Keith Stout and his associates began to envision a big band dedicated to the expression of American Jazz, Gospel and Christian Contemporary music. They also wanted to educate the public about where jazz music came from and help young musicians develop their talents and passion for music. Thus, Alive Music Orchestra or AMO, was formed as a non-profit organization. Since many of the current standard jazz forms we hear today originated from other styles of music, AMO has put together a program which encompasses many different forms of jazz and appeals to a wide audience. The members of AMO come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience such as organizing, directing and performing in worship bands, rock bands, chamber groups, symphonic bands, big bands, and contemporary instrumental orchestras
