Charlie Porter

Born: May 10, 1978

Internationally acclaimed and Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and composer Charlie Porter first cut his teeth on the New York jazz scene in the late ’90s, while simultaneously studying classical trumpet performance at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of famed trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis. Though he has a strong penchant for improvised music, Charlie has since delved into many projects from jazz and classical to Arabic, Indian, African, Australian Aboriginal and Korean music, seeking to find common ground among all "good music" and avoiding the pigeonholing of genre labels.

Jonathan Saraga

Born: August 26, 1987

Jonathan Saraga is a New York City-based trumpeter, composer, arranger, producer, educator and Doctor of Musical Arts. He won the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Solo Competition in 2007 and competed as a finalist in the 2009 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition. He has been selected for four intensive and/or residency programs including the 2011 School for Improvisational Music Summer Intensive Program, the 2015 Banff International Summer Intensive Program in Jazz and Creative Music, the 2019 Banff Early Fall Musicians in Residence program and the 2021 Chashama chaNorth Artist in Residence program. Additional residency related accolades include finalist status in the 2021 Haleakala National Park Artist in Residence program and waitlist status for the 2021 Millay Colony of the Art’s Core Residency program. Jonathan has also competed as a finalist in three jazz-trumpet vacancy auditions—the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra (2020), U.S. Navy Band Commodores (2021) and the Air Force Academy Band (2021). In 2022, he became a selected member of the Recording Academy’s New York Chapter.

Carl Spencer

Carl Spencer encompasses a wide range of styles both "Hot" and "Sweet", being equally at home with the pretty Bix Beiderbecke-school of phrasing, the angular clipped syncopation of the Original Dixieland Jazzband, the biting attack and bitter blues feelings of Oliver, Keppard and Ladnier. He also portrays the many Dance-Band styles of the '20's and '30's, which allied to his mastery of mutes adds to his reputation as one of Britain's hottest players in the idiom.

Benny Benack III

At the age of 28, Pittsburgh-born, New York-based Jazz trumpeter & singer Benny Benack III has quickly established himself as one of the most versatile and virtuosic voices of his generation. Hailed by the New York Times as “a charismatic young trumpeter who maintains an earnest sideline as a singer”, Benack has a knack for delighting audiences with panache, in the spirit of classic crooners like Sinatra & Mel Tormé, with a nod to legendary trumpet showmen Louis Armstrong & Dizzy Gillespie. Ben Bierman

Born: March 15, 1954

Ben Bierman is a Brooklyn-based trumpet player, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. In his compositions he incorporates elements of jazz, blues, Latin music, and the Western art music tradition. His music can be heard on Some Takes On the Blues (Plaza Street Music PSM 101, 2019) and on Beyond Romance: Songs by Ben Bierman (New Focus Recordings FCR 141, 2013). As a trumpet player, Ben has performed with a wide array of artists, including Johnny Copeland, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Pacheco, Machito, Johnny Colon, Archie Shepp, and Arthur Blythe. He is the author of Listening to Jazz (Oxford University Press), has essays in numerous books and journals, and is an Associate Professor at John Jay College, City University of New York

Duncan Fraser

Born: August 4, 1987

It's been a decade since, Jazz Trumpeter, Arranger & Composer Duncan Fraser graduated on a music scholarship from Exeter University and came through the ranks of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Duncan is now in demand as a Jazz and session musician on gigs and recordings all over the UK & Europe and his arrangements have been distributed to numerous ensembles all around the world. Duncan is also active on the London Jazz scene, having lead his own award winning ensemble, The Duncan Fraser Big Band, and now with his new project The Duncan Fraser Septet, who make appearances at some of the city’s best known Jazz clubs

Emile Turner

Born: April 2, 1970

NY based trumpeter with Louisiana roots, began playing music at a later age. Inspired to play trumpet by listening to the classic recordings in jazz and reading the Miles Davis Autobiography. Through years of private instruction, he enrolled and eventually graduated with a BFA in jazz performance from City College of New York under the direction of Steve Wilson and Scott Reeves. He has since performed with a host of musicians in some of New York's top venues.

Suresh Singaratnam

Suresh Singaratnam is a trumpeter of uncommon breadth - unique not only for the small crowd he inhabits as a virtuoso of both classical and jazz styles but also for the continuity and clarity of his voice across both idioms. When he began to study the trumpet at age nine, it never occurred to him that he might have to choose between the two. Torontonian by way of Zambia (where he was born) and the U.K., Singaratnam boasts a background that defies classification as nimbly as his artistic taste. Saskia Laroo

Born: July 31, 1959

Saskia Laroo (1959) was hailed by American public and press at large as “Lady Miles of Europe”. She is one of the few women trumpet stylists and a delight on the music scene for almost four decades.

Born July 31, 1959 in Amsterdam, it began for her on trumpet at age 8, never dreaming herself becoming a professional musician.

That all changed when Saskia, turned 18, after briefly majoring in Mathematics at University of Amsterdam switched her focus to a career in music. She worked extensively in various groups from this point, primarily on upright bass, though eventually, on both bass and trumpet. Saskia Laroo combines today’s music by uncontrived romps into new styles, eagerly limned as “nu jazz” or “swingin’ body-music”–a vivacious blend of hip-hop, jazz, salsa, funk reggae, and world, that a select few others would dare venture.

Freely improvised chamber jazz for trumpet, viola and bass clarinet with special guests

Angela on the Arts is a trio convened by jazz trumpeter/composer John D’earth who has performed internationally, and appeared on over 100 recordings with Dave Matthews, Bruce Hornsby, John Abercrombie, Emily Remler, Kait Dunton, Pat Metheny, Lionel Hampton, Tito Puente, and Buddy Rich, among many others. D'earth has recorded as a leader for Vanguard Records, ENJA Records, DoubleTime Jazz and his own Cosmology label.

Within is Angela on the Arts' debut album. D’earth plays trumpet, flugelhorn, flutes and percussion, Bonnie Gordon plays viola, and Michelle Oliva plays bass clarinet and employs looping
