Andrew Foertsch

Born: April 25, 1943

Born in Chicago. Performed and recorded with Giant City/Aura 1970-1972 for Mercury Records. Played in various Big Bands in the Chicago area including the Chicago Grandstand Big Band, BJB, and the Bobby Christian Orchestra until 1980 when I moved to St. Petersburg Fl. I've been active in the Jazz and Blues scene in the area off and on since then performing with the Potpourri Big Band at the 1980 Clearwater Jazz Holiday and also with the Mark Hendricks Big Band and the Tomcats Big Band. Performed with the Al Downing All Stars and have led several groups incuding the George Allgaier-Andy Foertsch Jazz Project, Moment's Notice and Les Bon Temps Quartet

Stan Bock

Stan Bock was born into a musical family. His father was a cornet player and High School band director while his mother was a singer and pianist that also taught private piano students. During his schooling, Stan was always playing in bands directed by his father, Carl, and he eventually even played "tailgate" trombone in his dad's Dixieland band at age 15. After High School, Stan attended Fort Hays State (Kansas) where he graduated in 1973 with a B.M.E. He then received his M.M. in solo performance from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975. Stan entered the U.S. Air Force Band program in 1975 where he served as trombone soloist and lead player with various groups for over 19 years before retiring in 1994

Brian Pastor

The Brian Pastor Big Band, founded in 1994, is a 17 piece jazz ensemble comprised of some of Philadelphia's finest musicians. It was created as an outlet for area musicians to perform the music they love, and to provide a showcase for outstanding jazz soloists, composers and arrangers. Members of the Brian Pastor Big Band include music educators and past and present performers with well known music organizations such as the Philadelphia Orchestra and Peter Nero and the Philly Pops. Several band members are freelance studio and theater performers. Pastor is currently principal trombonist with Peter Nero and The Philly Pops, and has been a music educator in Philadelphia for many years. The Band is noted for its tight ensemble, solos of the highest quality, exhilarating diverse arrangements and original compositions "a swingin' band that will make you smile." From straight ahead jazz to funk, the band?s repertoire targets a following of all ages. The Brian Pastor Big Band has had extended engagements at Philadelphia area clubs including 23rd Street Café, the Blue Moon Jazz Café, the Cherry Hill (NJ) Hilton, the Casino Deli, and is noted for appearances at private engagements, music festivals, educational workshops and annual appearances at the Penn's Landing Summer Concert Series

Mark Patterson

Born: April 8, 1960

Mark Patterson, a Convergence member since 2000, attempts to keep a variety of music playing on his collection of twentieth-century trombones. He explored the roads of Japan with section-mates Jim Pugh, Bill Watrous, and David Taylor in Dave Matthews' Manhattan Jazz Orchestra; and toured the US and Europe with the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Barbra Streisand, and Steely Dan. He appeared or recorded with jazz artists Clark Terry, Sir Roland Hanna, Charli Persip, Jaki Byard, Dale Bruning, Eddie Palmieri, John Pizzarelli, Tom Pearson, The Westchester Jazz Orchestra, and the Gotham Jazz Orchestra (Mike Holober)

Mike Christianson

Born: May 7, 1963

Originally from Fargo, North Dakota- Mike is fortunate to be living his dream, making a living as a New York City musician. Cursed with and open mind and a willingness to try things, he is involved in the NYC scene in many ways. Mike started out with trombone lessons from his father, who later was his high school band director. This led to the University of Northern Colorado where he studied with Buddy Baker. Before finishing his degree Mike was called by Ray Charles to tour the world with his orchestra. After finishing his degree at Moorhead State University (MN), Mike knew it was time to move to NYC. Upon arrival, he was awarded a performance scholarship to complete his Master’s Degree at the Manhattan School of Music studying trombone with Hal Janks (Metropolitan Opera) and composition with Ludmilla Ulehla

Rafi Malkiel

Born: April 14, 1972

Composer, trombonist and euphonium player Rafi Malkiel, originally from Jerusalem, has shared his talent with audiences around the world, playing Jazz & Latin music in his unique and captivating style. Leading his quintet, Malkiel plays original compositions, as well as unique arrangements fusing Jazz and Latin-American standards with Afro-Caribbean rhythms. The Rafi Malkiel Quintet performs extensively in venues such as the 92 Street Y, The Corcoran Gallery of Arts in Washington, D.C. and The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Small's and more. Rafi was cited in the Recommended Jazz Trombonists list in PBS’ website Jazz, a film by Ken Burns, as well as in The Young Guns of Jazz, trumpeting the best of a new generation, by Chip Deffaa in the New York Post, July 2001. Rafi Malkiel's debut solo album titled My Island will be released in 2007

Darrell J. Walker

Born: February 24, 1957

Hello, my name is Darrell J. Walker. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Fled Katrina August 2005 and currently reside in Englewood, NJ, right over GWB. Here is some info: I am an AWESOME trombone player in the real New Orleans tradition--:) Been called the "baddest" trombone player in NO. Learned from the best--my daddy plays the trombone as well as I studied in college. I have played professionally for approx 30 years, I'm 49 years old. Stephen Smith

Stephen Smith is a trombone player and composer living in Austin, Texas. He received his Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies with an emphasis in arranging from the University of North Texas in December of 2002. He was a member of the world famous University of North Texas One O'clock Lab Band in 2000 and 2002 and has had four original compositions recorded on One O'clock Lab Band albums. Stephen is also the winner of the "Best Original Composition" Downbeat Magazine student award in 2003, the ASCAP Foundation's Young Jazz Composer award in 2004 as well as The Airmen of Note's Sammy Nestico award in 2004

Chris Washburne

Born: September 25, 1963

Chris Washburne is one of those rare musicians whose musical activities cross many styles and cultural borders. From early in his career he refused to be pigeon-holed as just being a jazz or classical player, but instead has continually pursued a diverse path. Chris is currently freelancing as a studio musician and performing trombone, bass trombone, tuba, didjeridu and percussion with various classical, jazz, rock and Latin groups in New York City. He also tours extensively with various groups and has concertized throughout the North America, Europe, Asian, Africa, South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Chris received his Bachelors of Music in classical trombone performance from the University of Wisconsin where he studied with William Richardson, Richard Davis and Les Thimmeg

Brian Drye

Born: February 25, 1975

Trombonist and pianist Brian Drye leads the group Bizingas whose debut album was hailed as “one of the best introductions to a new band” by The New York Times. As a founding member of the eclectic chamber ensemble “The Four Bags”, his compositions have premiered at Lincoln Center, Symphony Space and BAM. Brian has lent his unique trombone voice to groups as diverse as balkan brass juggernauts Slavic Soul Party and Frank London’s Klezmer Brass Allstars. He has performed and recorded on both piano and trombone with Tony award winner Stew from Stew and the Negro Problem
