Based in Melbourne, The Jazz Harbingers is the premier tribute band to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the country. The Jazz Harbingers draw heavily on influences from albums like Moanin', Indestructible and Free For All, seeking to capture the energy of Art Blakey's multigenerational all-star band and convey its old school sensibilities to the Melbourne scene.

Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers is among the most prolific, seminal and iconic bands in jazz history. Running for a total of 35 years, the band has featured and mentored countless world-famous musicians, including Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Brown, Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, and Cedar Walton.

Jamie Oehlers

Jamie Oehlers is one of Australia’s leading jazz artists and saxophonists. In 2003 Jamie was the winner of the World Saxophone Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and has won numerous awards in Australia, including an Australian Jazz “Bell” Award for Best Australian Jazz Artist and three for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, an ABC Limelight Award for Best Jazz CD Release, an Australian Young Achiever of the Year Award, and has twice been a finalist in the ARIA awards for Best Jazz Album. He has performed throughout the world including major festivals like the JVC Jazz Festival in New York, BBC London Jazz Festival, Jazz Yatra in India, Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Villa Celimontana Jazz Festival in Rome, Galway Jazz festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, and comprehensively throughout Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Gabriel Evan

Born: June 23, 1987

Gabriel Evan, a woodwinds specialist originally from Ossining, NY, performs over 300 shows per year, spanning traditional jazz, gypsy jazz and early Caribbean music. Receiving his first saxophone at 8 years old, Gabriel has spent the last 28 years studying his craft, with an early highpoint interning at WBGO jazz radio station out of Newark, NJ, during his high school years. He earned his Bachelor of Music from DePauw University in 2009, and immediately following graduation began performing professionally in NYC.

As a member of the traditional and gypsy jazz communities, Gabriel has been performing as both a bandleader and sideman for the last 15 years and released his first record Gabriel’s Swing as a bandleader in June of 2019 and second record Global Entry in 2021

Goldbloom

Brooklyn-based punk jazz trio GoldBloom wants to be your new favorite garage band.

Originally hailing from Texas, the trio began playing together while attending the New School for Jazz and soon after cultivated a musical sensibility that combines the hard-hitting and visceral nature of a rock band with the high technical skill of a top-shelf jazz trio. Since 2019, the band has been actively performing around NYC, bringing raucous intelligence to their performances and earning praise at jazz and rock venues. With their first release, “Peaked in High School,” the band challenged listeners to tap their toes and bang their heads

Raymond Hardy

Born: January 1, 2014

Raymond is a composer and saxophonist, he is one half of the post-fusion group Astrakan. Raymond is the saxophonist for the soul, groove and funk band The Groove Primitive.

Astrakan are London composers and performers Celia Lu and Raymond Hardy. They are graduates from the masters course in composition at Goldsmith's College (University of London).

Louie Belogenis

Born: June 22, 1953

Louie Belogenis is a self-taught musician who came of age during the heady days of the old East Village, when the remnants of a New York City avant-garde were still alive. Influenced by Buddhism, poetry, film, music, dance, and theater (he was a member of Richard Foreman’s Ontological-Hysteric Theatre for four years), Louie felt like a bohemian Alice in an esoteric Wonderland.

At this time he became friends with John Zorn, who selected Louie’s first saxophone from We Buy on Third Avenue and 11th Street. Encouraged by Zorn and musicians like Bill and Wayne Horvitz, Phillip Johnston and Joel Forrester, he entered the proverbial woodshed,  occasionally emerging to perform in public. It was during a gig with William Hooker’s ensemble that Rashied Ali heard Louie play, and invited him to visit his studio, the site of the former club Ali’s Alley. That fortuitous meeting led to the band Prima Materia, and many recordings and tours throughout the mid- and late 90’s. The relationship with Rashied continued up to the master’s untimely passing in 2009, with Louie visiting – sometimes on a weekly basis – to play and listen to stories from ‘back in the day.’

Mark Hanslip

Born: October 22, 1979

Mark started out playing on the Birmingham jazz and improvised music scenes, working regularly in groups led by pianist Steve Tromans and altoist Chris Bowden. He was an early member of Hans Koller Ensemble, recording 2 CDs, and shortly after moving to London he co-founded the Loop Collective and became one of the busiest players on the capital's new jazz scene, working with groups including Nostalgia 77, Outhouse, Twelves, Jonathan Bratoeff Quartet and Keith Tippett. He has played at many major festivals and venues in the UK, Europe and US and has been broadcast several times on Resonance 104.4FM, BBC Radios 1 and 3, and on the internet

Tyler Levy Sniff

Born: April 17, 1988

Tyler Levy Sniff is a jazz tenor saxophonist living in Atlanta, Georgia.
