Ilaria Capalbo

Born:
Stockholm-based bassist/composer Ilaria Capalbo’s playing has been described as “bold, visionary, architectonic,” (Lira, SE) and her writing ”lush” (NoTreble, USA). Originally from Naples, Italy, she regularly works with musicians from the classical world, pop and jazz. Following the international acclaim of her 2022 debut Karthago, her new, upcoming work is inspired by the transformative experience of new motherhood. A storyteller at heart, her music is rich yet immediate, deeply personal yet it connects and lingers with the audience. “It is always a joy to encounter for the first time a musician who sounds so fresh and original and whose music is such a delight.” (Chris May, AllAboutJazz)

Tomoko Omura

Born:
Tomoko Omura is a visionary jazz violinist, composer, and educator whose distinctive sound blends classical technique with the improvisational energy of jazz. Born and raised in Japan, Tomoko began playing the violin at the age of four, building a strong classical foundation. Her love for jazz, however, developed later in her life during her university years, where she became a self-taught jazz violinist, drawing inspiration from recordings, live performances, and her own exploration of the genre. This unique journey led her to become one of the most innovative voices in modern jazz violin.

Jim Snidero: Strings

by David A. Orthmann
By staying in touch with his roots as a hard blowing alto saxophonist and leader of razor-sharp small bands, Jim Snidero has successfully married a ten-piece string section and a conventional jazz quartet. His arrangements of six original compositions (including the three-part “River Suite”) and two standards entail a constant shifting between the relative freedom of ...
Jim Snidero: Strings

by C. Michael Bailey
Jazz soloists especially like to make two types of recordings--those in duo with piano and those with strings . Art Pepper, Frank Morgan, Dizzy Gillespie and Jon Faddis made very fine piano duet recordings (Pepper and Morgan with the same pianist, George Cables, Gillespie and Faddis with Oscar Peterson). But seemingly, the Holy Grail of jazz ...
