Tarun Balani Collective: Dharma
by Dave Wayne
Drummer / composer Tarun Balani's previous album, Sacred World (Self Produced, 2013), offered audiences a fresh look at the synthesis and Indian music and jazz. On Dharma, Balani steps back a bit from the music of his homeland. The result is still an invigorating listen. Balani's composing here makes extensive use of hypnotic, propulsive ostinati. Conceptually, ...
Behn Gillece: Dare to Be
by C. Andrew Hovan
When it comes to jazz vibraphone, the names of Stefon Harris and Warren Wolf are most likely to be found on a list of contemporary leaders. Add to that now the name of Behn Gillece, a gentleman who has been honing his skills on the New York scene since 2006. His talents first came to the ...

Lorin Cohen: Home

Giovanni Mirabassi Quartet: No Way Out
by Neri Pollastri
