D'Vonne Lewis

D’Vonne Lewis, 32, is a self-taught musician/drummer/poet with a background in gospel, funk, and rhythm and blues. Lewis is the grandson of the late-great ‘Godfather of rock and roll/soul’, the Pacific Northwest’s Hall of Famer, Hammond B-3 organ legend, Dave Lewis. Because of Dave Lewis, Seattle’s 1950’s entertainment scene started on the path to desegregation. D’Vonne graduated from Seattle’s Roosevelt High School in 2002 under the direction of Scott Brown, where he received numerous high school jazz band awards, including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Outstanding Drum Soloist winner at the Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival for the years of 2000, 2001, and 2002. While still in high school, D’Vonne was first-call drummer to local and world-renowned artists, including Hadley Caliman; Buddy Catlett; Julian Priester; Floyd Standifer; Jay Thomas; Larry Fuller and Marc Seales, to name a few. Lewis has also performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra; pianist Marian McPartland; guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli; clarinetist Eddie Daniels; and out-sax titan Charles Gayle.

Rick Mandyck

Mandyck has developed one of the most remarkable and distinctive tenor saxophone sounds to be heard anywhere: big, warm, expressive and exciting. His melodic and improvisational style is a mix of pieces assimilated from his heroes (John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Cannonball Adderly, Michael Brecker) and his original touches drawn from his own roots in the blues. Born and raised in New York, Mandyck settled in Seattle in the early '80's where he soon became a top player in clubs, concerts and recording studios. He's performed and recorded with jazz greats Mark Murphy, Billy Hart, Lawrence Marable, and Carter Jefferson and was awarded "Best NW Instrumentalist" in the 1999 Earshot Jazz Awards

Ben Thomas (US)

In demand as a performer and educator, Ben Thomas combines an energetic performance technique with a distinctive compositional style. As a vibraphonist, percussionist, and bandoneon player, he can be found playing tango, jazz, chamber music and Latin jazz throughout the Northwest. Ben has released four albums of original compositions on Origin Records as a leader or co-leader, including “The Madman’s Difference”, “The Mystagogue”, and “Triskaidekaphobia”. His most recent CD, “Yet What Is Any Ocean…”, was declared “an outstanding album with some interesting compositions and performances alike” by allmusic.com. In addition to leading tango and Latin jazz groups, Ben co-leads TORCH, a chamber group dedicated to both 20th century music and original compositions. Michael Glynn

Born in Seattle, Michael Glynn began playing bass at the age of 11. Beginning his jazz studies with former Count Basie and Louis Armstrong bassist Buddy Catlett, Michael starting working professionally while still a student at Garfield High School, where he played for four years in that school's renowned jazz band. After two years in engineering school at Columbia University in New York City, Michael returned to Seattle where he graduated summa cum laude in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Washington, where he studied under Doug Miller and Barry Lieberman. Moving to Albuquerque in 2006, he quickly established himself as an integral part of the New Mexico music scene, performing and recording extensively, and also making time to earn his Master of Music degree from the University of New Mexico, studying with Mark Tatum

Originally from Milan, Italy, Crosara’s music melds an impressive mix of jazz improvisation, a romantic vein from his classical training, along with Latin influences. His major piano influences are Chick Corea, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Herbie Hancock.

Mark Taylor is one of the most in demand saxophonists in the Pacific Northwest. Widely respected as a unique and creative improviser, an impeccable ensemble player, and for his stylistic versatility, Mark performs and records extensively with such diverse and award winning groups as Matt Jorgensen +451, Jim Knapp Orchestra, Frieze of Life, Victor Noriega Trio + 2, Tom Varner's Seattle Tentet, Thomas Marriott's "Willie Nelson Project", Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, Randy Halberstadt Quintet, and the New York Composers Orchestra lead by Wayne Horvitz and Tom Varner.
