Mike Fletcher

Born: July 1, 1982

Multi-instrumentalist and composer Mike Fletcher performs throughout the UK and Europe. As a nominee for the ECHO Rising Stars 2014/2015 programme he has recently appeared at the Barbican Centre as part of the London Jazz Festival, Hamburg’s Laiezhalle and the CBSO Centre in Birmingham. Mike works predominantly in the field of jazz and improvised music. His primary interest is in balancing composition with improvisation, creating music that has a ‘free-wheeling, experimental atmosphere and the real vibrancy that music being created in the moment can have.’ Mike’s three main projects are the Mike Fletcher Trio, the Different Trane nonet and 12-piece Mike Fletcher Jazz Orchestra

Benjamin Boone

Born: October 19, 1963

Saxophonist and composer Benjamin Boone's Origin Records album with US Poet Laureate Philip Levine, The Poetry of Jazz, was called “an album of unmistakable… historic importance” (UK Vibe), “a master class in the combining of different art forms…an essay in complementarity” (All About Jazz), and voted #3 “Best Album of 2018” in DownBeat Magazine’s 83rd annual Readers Poll. DownBeat noted, “despite the star turns [guests Branford Marsalis, Chris Potter, Greg Osby and Tom Harrell], Boone not only distinguishes himself with uncluttered, affecting orchestrations, but by passionately balancing intellect and emotion.” All About Jazz echoed, “these guest artists might be the attraction for the jazz listener, and Levine for the poetry fan, but that would miss the extraordinary music both written and performed by Boone.”  The album was featured on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered,” a Staff Pick in The Paris Review, and on Amazon’s “Hot New Releases” list for months. He served as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar to Ireland (2022-23), Ghana (2017-18), and the Republic of Moldova (2005), and is a Professor of Music at California State University Fresno.

David Rubel

Toronto-born Jazz saxophonist David Rubel is an alumnus of both the Humber College and University of Toronto Jazz programs. His rich sound and original brand of jazz has been featured in all of Toronto’s major jazz venues from The Rex Jazz & Blues Bar and the legendary Montreal Bistro, to The Old Mill and the new Jazz Bistro. His debut CD “Into the Dark” garnered positive reviews from the Toronto Star, Jazz FM 91.1 and various jazz publications. David has toured throughout Europe, the United States and Canada, and performed with Grammy and Juno winners such as Maria Schneider, Kurt Elling, Donny McCaslin, Dave Liebman, Time Ries, Phil Markowitz, Don Thompson, and many others

Wendell Hobbs

Born: February 22, 1953

Introducing...... The Brandywine Valley Saxophone Quartet Do you enjoy listening to the sultry, sensual sound of the saxophone? Just imagine that feeling multiplied by four, and you will have an idea of what you will experience when you hear the Brandywine Saxophone Quartet. The concept of the saxophone quartet has been around for many years, originating in France in the early 20th century with Marcel Mule. The idea was to duplicate the sound of a string quartet with four saxophonists, soprano, alto, tenor and baritone. Through the years the saxophone quartet concept expanded into the jazz realm with recordings by the Hollywood Saxophone Quartet and the superb arrangements of Lennie Niehaus. Robert Landham

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Robert Landham began his formal musical studies in grade school at age 10, and in three years, began attending the prestigious Settlement Music School, where he received conservatory training in clarinet performance. During this time, he also began studying the saxophone, and by age 16, toured Europe with the Odean Pope Saxophone Choir. Graduating from the University of The District of Columbia with a bachelor's degree in music performance, Mr. Landham went on to study harmony with famed John Coltrane mentor, Dennis Sandoli. Robert has played in a variety of musical settings, performing and/or recording with: Barry Harris, Nat Adderly, Gladys Knight, The Dells, Grover Washington Jr., Wallace Roney, Christian McBride, Stanley Turrentine, The Temptations, Dionne Warwick, Teddy Pendergrass, Joey DeFrancesco, Stanley Clarke, Emeril Live, and many more

Ian East

Ian has been musical director and/or composer for numerous bands over the years including Balkanatics (Balkan brass) and psych-prog legends GONG (alongside Daevid Allen, Steve Hillage and Gilli Smyth). He also works as a sideman and session player in numerous other projects such as with Reem Kelani (Arabic), Abdelkader Saadoun (north African/Meditteranean), Rosco Levee (blues/country/southern rock), and performs in various other jazz, world and improvised music settings like Inspiral Trio (with Gong's Dave Sturt and kavus Torabi). He also composes, arranges, records, mixes and produces music from his own studio.

Grégory Sallet

Grégory Sallet is a multifaceted and imaginative saxophonist based in Lyon, France. A specialist of the soprano and alto saxophones, he is recognised as a creative improviser, composer, and ensemble leader. Citizen Jazz has described him as “a saxophonist with an elaborate language… whose soprano tone reflects the influence of Steve Lacy.”

Deeply committed to musical communication, Sallet engages both fellow musicians and audiences through a wide spectrum of emotions—ranging from energy and intensity to nuance and gentleness. He leads several acclaimed projects, including Sur Écoute Quartet and Rhythm Perseverance, and is an active member of various ensembles such as MB Quatre. His music transmits a profound sensitivity and a poetic curiosity. True to the Latin root of the word “curiosity” (cura – to care), Sallet sees curiosity as an artistic and vital force, aiming to awaken listeners to their own emotions and to the surrounding world.

Michel Nirenberg

Born: July 10

Saxophonist and composer Michel Nirenberg, a native of Rio de Janeiro, has been carving out a niche in the Washington, DC jazz scene since coming to the United States in 2012. He has already made a name for himself in Brazil, performing in many festivals and winning in competitions throughout the country while earning a bachelor’s degree in music at the top of his class from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). In 2014, he graduated with a master’s degree in music from James Madison University, where he was a teaching assistant and active performer. Long before graduation, he was playing with top performers in both countries. Nirenberg was raised in a family of musicians and studied music since childhood
