Caspar van Wijk

Caspar van Wijk studied at the conservatories of Rotterdam and Amsterdam, with Simon Rigter, Ferdinand Povel and Jasper Blom. During that time he also studied abroad (Philadelphia, New York) with Dick Oatts and John Swana, among others. He graduated in 2011, summa cum laude, from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Caspar lives in The Hague, where he performs with the Van Wijk/Derudder Quartet, together with pianist Alex Koo Derudder. He is also a popular sideman in a variety of formations. Chicago native Joel Moore (b.1973), a highly talented and versatile tenor saxophonist specializing in both jazz and rhythm & blues, received an M.M. in Jazz Pedagogy from the Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory in 2000. While living in Boston, he studied with Jeff Harrington, Bill Pierce and Ed Tomassi and interacted with renowned saxophonists Rick Margitza and Bob Berg during their respective clinics and performances. Joel also performed at the House of Blues and Ryles Jazz Club in Cambridge, MA and toured throughout New England with a variety of ensembles. Prior to Berklee, Joel lived in Louisiana and began graduate studies at the University of New Orleans

Featuring African mbira (also known as the kalimba), a collection of brass and woodwinds, and a traditional jazz rhythm section that speaks of New York City Jazz, Cuban, Brazilian and Columbian influences, this ensemble brings Paul’s unique compositional voice to life. The group was formed in the spring of 2002 as part of a multimedia performance project with visual artist Joan Carlon (Paul’s mother) called Where is Home? Stephen Norfleet began playing saxophone in his hometown of Newport News, VA at the age of 9. At Newport News' Menchville High School, Norfleet received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and was also selected as a member of the U.S. Collegiate Wind Ensemble, a group of talented student musicians culled from across the United States given the opportunity to perform across Europe. In 1994 he re-located to Richmond, VA where he received a tuition scholarship to attend Virginia Commonwealth University's Jazz Program. Past graduates include saxophonists Steve Wilson and Victor Goines, drummers Clarence Penn and Nate Smith, and Saturday Night Live bassist James Genus

Lance Bryant

Born:

Saxophonist, arranger and vocalist Lance Bryant performs in the New York/New Jersey area. He received his formal music education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he studied saxophone, composition and arranging. After moving to New York City in the mid. 1980s, Lance continued his education, studying saxophone and arranging privately with Frank Foster, the former director of the Count Basie Orchestra. He also studied composition with Bruce Adolphe of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society. In 1990 Lance began his decade-long relationship with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and in 1993 became the Orchestra's Musical Director and Principal Arranger. Lance also made his film debut in Spike Lee's Malcolm X and traveled extensively with Phyllis Hyman, Jon Hendricks, Pete "LaRocca" Sims, James Williams and others. In the early summer of 2000, Lance was selected as an on-stage musician for the Broadway production of the musical review Swing!, which received six Toni nominations. Throughout his music career, Lance's talents as an arranger, composer, saxophonist and vocalist have been featured on many projects like: For the Love of Jazz on Mojazz Records (Lionel Hampton), Dem Bones and Simply Natural on MaxJazz Records for Grammy nominated vocalist Carla Cook, Swingin' Away for the George Gee Swing Orchestra, and more recently on drummer Yoron Israel’s latest release, Visions, the Music of Stevie Wonder.
