Jazz Fiction Wanted
This Week
Along with more staff Top 2025 Picks, we also published our annual roundups of top articles, album reviews, songs, and more.We also introduced a new way for AAJ members to submit jazz fiction using AI. I had a lot of fun creating a story this past weekendcheck out To Boldly Swing below. You'll find links explaining how to submit your own story in the section below.
On Creativity, Technology, and Jazz
Since its founding in 1995, All About Jazz has evolved alongside the internet itself. From the earliest days of online publishing to the platform we are today, technology has never been the pointit has simply been a means to better serve the jazz community. As new tools emerge, it's natural to approach them with curiosity, caution, and questions. Artificial intelligence is no exception. At All About Jazz, we are beginning to explore AI-assisted storytelling in a limited, transparent, and creative way (e.g. The Blue Note Portal and Django's Cosmic Echo). These stories are clearly labeled, editorially reviewed, and designed to complementnot replacethe human voices that define this site. Jazz journalism, criticism, reviews, interviews, and reporting remain written and edited by people who live and breathe the music.
Why explore this at all? Because jazz has always thrived on imagination, experimentation, and new ways of telling stories. AI, when guided thoughtfully, can help bring imaginative concepts to life and invite broader participation from our communityespecially from those who may have an idea but not the desire to write a traditional article.
This is an experiment. It's optional. And it will continue only as long as it aligns with our mission, values, and standards. Most importantly, readers will always know what they're reading. Transparency and trust are essential. What we're doing now is simply exploring another way to tell jazz stories, together.
