Colombian pianist and composer Ricardo Gallo has written for acoustic and electro- acoustic formats, for short films, videos, dance and multimedia stage productions, and has performed and written for improvisatory groups. He has published nine albums as a leader, his music has appeared in several compilations in Colombia, USA, and Europe, and has participated in recordings of several other groups. Ricardo Gallo's Tierra de Nadie: The Great Fine Line

Read "The Great Fine Line" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

01. Michaël Attias - Renku in Coimbra (Clean Feed - 2010). Adoro i labirinti di melodia che Attias crea, e il supporto di Satoshi Takeishi e John Hébert alimenta una musica realmente stratificata. 02. Sylvie Courvoisier - Signs and Epigrams (Tzadik - 2007). The composed sections structure the freedom in ways that bop heads frame the improvisations. Only this is not bop derived in any palpable way. ...

Peter Evans Quartet: Live in Lisbon

Read "Live in Lisbon" reviewed by Troy Collins

Recorded at Portugal's Jazz em Agosto Festival in August of 2009, Live in Lisbon captures Peter Evans' longstanding quartet in concert, deconstructing a program of reconfigured standards--a regular feature of the New York-based trumpeter's oeuvre. Using classic American Songbook tunes as the basis for the quartet's freewheeling improvisations, Evans dismantles familiar melodies, harmonies and rhythms, rearranging ...

Ricardo Gallo Cuarteto: Udimbres y Maranas

Read "Ricardo Gallo Cuarteto: Udimbres y Maranas" reviewed by James Nichols

Ricardo Gallo Cuarteto Udimbres y Maranas La Distritofonica 2008 The Ricardo Gallo Cuarteto's sound is complex--and not just because the Cuarteto is born out of a marriage between avant-garde jazz and Colombian rhythms. What adds further depth to their music is the emotional density that shows itself almost immediately on ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
