Marko Churnchetz

Born: May 15, 1986

Marko Churnchetz is one of Slovenia's most heralded contemporary musicians and renowned exports, based in New York City. On the international scene he is known as a formidable young multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer who easily works across genres and in particular jazz, classical and popular music. Churnchetz was born May 15, 1986 in Maribor, Slovenia and by the age of age six his musical path began by studying classical music on accordion and then piano at the age of ten. A prodigious talent, by his teens he was a multiple award-winner in both national and international competitions, and he earned a classical piano degree at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Maribor, Slovenia in 2005 as well as jazz piano degree at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria in 2009 where he graduated with honors. He has released four albums as a leader: Signature and Moral Interchange (both released in 2010 on B.A.S.E.)

Darius Scott

Born: January 19, 1961

Born in Ithaca, New York, pianist/composer Darius Scott grew up in Boston and has been living in Baltimore since 1983. Both of his parents enjoyed music, especially jazz. As a toddler, they used to take him to The Jazz Workshop to hear the legends playing and inventing the style of music he would eventually learn to play as well. At one point during that time, he even sat on a piano bench next to Thelonious Monk. Darius didn’t begin trying to play piano until college. When an injury sidelined him from soccer for a season, he signed up for a “keyboard awareness” class and through a friend, discovered the ragtime piano music of Scott Joplin

Eugene Uman

Eugene Uman has performed with Sheila Jordan, Jay Clayton, Dave Stryker, George Mraz, Jerry Bergonzi, Chris Vidala, Jeff Galindo, Bobby Sanabria, Carlos Averhoff, Bobby Bradford, Jimmy Heath, Donald Byrd, Billy Pierce, Carl Grubbs, John Lockwood, Pete Yellin, Bob Gullotti, the Rod Levitt Orchestra, the Vermont Jazz Center Big Band (where he serves as musical director) and many others. His current working ensembles are the Convergence Project with cellist Eugene Friesen, trombonist Jeff Galindo, saxophonist Michael Zsoldos, bassist Stomu Takeishi and drummer Satoshi Takeishi. He is also a member of the world music ensemble As Yet Quintet, with percussionists Julian Gerstin and Todd Roach, clarinetist Anna Patton and violinist, Miamon Miller

Dennis W Mellen

Born: July 28, 1956

Originally raised in Gurnee, Il; Dennis started playing piano by ear at 8 years old, picking tunes out at the piano and early instruction from his mother. By 11 years, he started formal lessons with Art Peck; studying classical compositions and theory, and later expanding into Jazz and big band. While attending Warren Township High School in Gurnee, he distinguished himself by earning top music awards, not only on piano, but on drums and percussion as well. He was also a participant in Steinway auditions, placing highly in the Chicago area. AIR FORCE BANDS After graduation from high school, Dennis joined the Air Force and became a member of the Air Force Bands for 11 years

Ferdinand Maisel

Born: April 1, 1961

Ferd (as he is known by friends and colleagues) has been an improvisational musician and composer since a very young age; fascinated with the piano since age 2 (STILL figuring out this instrument - and, thank you Aunt Kay), singing since age 3 (thank you Aunt Brenda), drumming since age 4 (STOP beating on the table, FERD!!), playing various brass instruments since age 9 (at least two of those horns were LARGER then ME!), guitar since age 10 (remaining truly SCARY on air-guitar! ;). He grew up (well, continues to grow up) as a pianist, keyboardist, percussionist, and multi-instrumentalist, working primarily in classical, neoclassical, jazz, rock, electronic, funk, and experimental music genres

Gerard Nieto

Born: June 24, 1978

Grau Professional de Piano pel Conservatori del Liceu de Barcelona. Diplomat en Magisteri Musical per la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Pianista de l'orquestra de jazz La Vella Dixieland des de l'any 2001. També pianista i director de la Big Band Jazz Maresme. Col·labora habitualment amb destacats artistes de jazz nacionals i internacionals: Scott Hamilton, Charmin Michelle, Harry Allen, Grant Stewart, Leroy Jones, Wendell Brunious, Toni Solà, Josep Mària Farràs, Dani Alonso i Marian Barahona, entre d'altres. També ha treballat amb Kathy Autrey, Monica Green, Txell Sust, Susana Sheiman, Randy Greer, Raynald Colom, David Pastor i altres artistes nacionals i internacionals. Ha participat en festivals de jazz arreu d'Europa i l'estat espanyol, a destacar: Dresden (Alemanya), Breda (Holanda), Salzburg (Àustria), Fribourg (Suïssa), Vilanova de Gaia (Portugal), Canàrias, San Javier (Múrcia), Toledo, Santander, Orense, Bilbao, Reus, Barcelona, Terrassa, etc.

Francesca Han

Pianist Francesca Han’s music captures both the subtle affectivity of classical music and the uninhibited effusiveness of rock. Having studied both, she has now developed an approach to jazz that leaves a foot planted in tradition while reaching for unique expression.

After achieving rapid success in her native Korea, she was encouraged to move to New York City in 2004. There she received her master’s degree in jazz performance from Queens College under the tutelage of pianists David Berkman and Bruch Barth, trumpeter and arranger Michael Mossman, and saxophonist Antonio Hart.

Bill Beach

Bill Beach has performed with many jazz legends including Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson, Eddie Harris, Nat Adderley, Mark Murphy and Howard Roberts. He has studied with Marian McPartland, Jack DeJohnette and Warren Bernhardt. Bill has performed in Japan, Mexico, and many European countries. In 2002 Bill began serious study of Brazilian music and the Portuguese language. His well received 2004 release “Letting Go” included 5 vocal interpretations of Brazilian classics as well as 5 of his original instrumental compositions. He made his first trip to Brazil in 2006 where he met and performed with many Brazilian musicians
