Wong Foo Jeng

Born:

Foo Jeng is a Malaysian pianist and composer. It is the craft of storytelling that informs his musical character, and thus his work often finds itself between the spaces of Classical and Black American music. He’s both a finalist of The American Prize in Composition and winner of the El Paso Original Music/New Ideas Competition. Moreover, his compositions have been performed by orchestras and chamber groups at events such as the St. Petersburg New Music Festival and São Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival. He’s also conducted chamber and choral music for the Berklee Composers Alumni Concert as well as performed piano pieces for their bi- annual Old South Church concerts. Foo Jeng holds a degree in Music Performance from Berklee College of Music and will be attending the Manhattan School of Music in Fall 2021

Originally from Detroit, Michael Hudson-Casanova is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, improviser, and educator quickly becoming a staple in the Chicago jazz and creative music scene. His debut album as a leader, Echoes of Thought (2021), has been praised as “…an exceptional record by a killer band,” by All About Jazz. His music blends traditional and contemporary jazz concepts, and always leaves plenty of room for dynamic improvisation with carefully chosen bandmates.

Luca Kézdy

Born:

Luca Kézdy was born in Győr, northwest Hungary, where she started her classical violin studies at the age of six. Later she studied aesthetics and philpsophy at the ELTE University’s liberal arts department. She placed in the finals in the first national Jazz Violin Competition held by the Hungarian Radio in 2006, where she won the Audience Prize. She has been playing with her band Santa Diver (violin-bass-drums) since 2006, and played at the most respected festivals and jazz clubs in Hungary, at many venues around Europe, and at the Chelsea Music Festival in New York. She is in more genres like jazz, free improvisation, pop and fusion

The Baltimore-based Ultrafaux Ensemble performs original Gypsy Jazz-inspired music with elements of swing, funk, blues, Brazilian choro, and French musette. Lead guitarist and composer Michael Joseph Harris is one of the most prolific writers in this style rooted in the technique of legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt. The instrumentation and personnel vary with each show drawing from a list of top players in the jazz, folk and bluegrass scene. The compositions allow Harris' constant rotation of sidemen on accordion, violin, clarinet, guitar, and upright bass, to harmonize together over rich Gypsy-inspired melodies while also allowing ample solo opportunities throughout each song

Charlie Porter

Internationally acclaimed and Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and composer Charlie Porter first cut his teeth on the New York jazz scene in the late ’90s, while simultaneously studying classical trumpet performance at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of famed trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis. Though he has a strong penchant for improvised music, Charlie has since delved into many projects from jazz and classical to Arabic, Indian, African, Australian Aboriginal and Korean music, seeking to find common ground among all "good music" and avoiding the pigeonholing of genre labels. Live People Ensemble is a Moscow-based band that was founded in 2009 by Russian pianist and composer Natalya Skvortsova. They play original music that feels stylistically close to contemporary European jazz, while also incorporating influences from the band members’ personal and cultural backgrounds. The musicians use various elements of jazz and art music tradition, folk and world music, and contemporary rhythmic and harmonic-rhythmic structures to convey emotion and live energy in their music. Shimpei Ogawa

Born in Okazaki, Aichi, Japan in 1994, Shimpei started playing electric bass at the age of 13. He would quickly switch to an upright bass after participating in a local jazz big band workshop and falling in love with the art of jazz. He started taking lessons from Tsuyoshi Shimada and played in the Okazaki Junior Jazz Orchestra: “Beans” where he would learn the styles of Count Basie and other legendary musicians from the “swing era”.  Shimpei moved to Tokyo in 2012 and started playing in local venues while studying jazz and classical bass with Osamu Koichi and Yasuyuki Se respectively

Michael Joseph Harris

In 2012, after years of performing mostly Brazilian and Latin influenced original music, guitarist Michael Joseph Harris began studying and playing the music of legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt which led to the creation of The Hot Club of Baltimore later that same year. Harris then formed the band Ultrafaux in 2014 to perform his original Gypsy Jazz compositions. In 2015, Harris founded and remained Artistic Director for Charm City Django Jazz Fest which is the only annual Jazz festival in Baltimore, Maryland. Michael was named one of the top ten musicians by Baltimore Style Magazine and he was featured on a full spread article in The Baltimore Sun Weekend Section as well as Baltimore Magazine
