Olivier Le Goas & Reciprocity: Onramp Of Heaven Dreams

A blindfolded spin of French drummer Olivier Le Goas & Reciprocity's Onramp Of Heaven Dreams says the spirit of guitarist Pat Metheny is hanging around. The lineup—guitar, piano, bass and drums—mirrors that of Metheny's early ECM Records such as Watercolors (1977) and American Garage (1979), and the disc's title itself nods to Metheny's Offramp (ECM Records,1982). ...

I guess this episode could be termed a “friendly" one, as it just so happens a number of my musical friends have new releases out for sampling, so I dove right in. Toronto drummer Nick Fraser has an excellent album out with Tony Malaby and Kris Davis and they open the show. Violist Ig Henneman from ...

Two rather contrasting recordings highlight this episode: Dan Weiss with his trio augmented by a second bassist and Rubberband, the once-shelved and now revived release from Miles Davis which was recorded after he had left Columbia. Matt Cibula, writing for All About Jazz, wondered in his review of French drummer Olivier Le Goas' Gravitation (Altrisuoni, 2007): “Who the heck is Olivier Le Goas...?" indicating perhaps a paucity of information about the leader, even in this day of Internet info overload. Nine years later there still isn't much on-line scoop about the man. ...

Olivier Le Goas Quartet: Gravitations

Read "Gravitations" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

All About Jazz needs your support

Donate
All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
