Musician

Ash Luo

Born:

Ash Luo is a drummer, composer, producer and photographer. Her musical inspirations embrace Spiritual Jazz, Nu-Jazz, Jazz Fusion and Eastern music. In her composition, Luo values the flow of groove and melody, the melancholy and soul-provoking improvisation lines and rich texture of sounds. As every piece of music may generate imagery for her audience, she envisions combining photographs and visual arts for each of her releases, hoping to achieve an interdisciplinary result which touches the soul and spirit of her audience. Luo’s artistic trace started in China, where she was born and raised, developed in Boston, USA, where she pursued her Bachelor of Music degree in Performance at Berklee College of Music and forged in Valencia, Spain, where she obtained her Master of Music in Contemporary Performance and Production at Berklee College of Music

Musician

Billie Davies

Born:

“Billie Davies is an accomplished free-jazz drummer. Born in Belgium, she now lives in New Orleans, having spent much of her life living peripatetically. The press release and liner notes of this CD are full of stories and these provide both an introduction and, I think, an explanation of her playing. Previous reviewers have made much of the self-taught nature of her drumming. While this is a feature of one of the stories in the press release, I defy any listener to distinguish her playing from someone ‘schooled’ in jazz drumming. There is a vitality and fluidity in the way that she plays the drum kit and this is what I mean by the idea that her stories explain her drumming; she speaks through the drums to the other players, asking questions of them and replying with the fusion of styles that she has built up over her travels” —Chris Baber, Jazz Views (Jun 30, 2016)

By 1977 Billie was working in the Private Night Club sector as a DJ in Cologne, Germany

Musician

Alberto Miranda

Evoluxion Project attempts to answer inquiries concerning the nature and values in Cuban musical practices combining technology, sound design, and the driving force behind the passion for the music we make and the audience we make it for. For the last years, Alberto has been tackling these issues in its characteristically piecemeal approach and has revived an interest in questions about the ontological nature of Cuban musical works, the experience of its own identity’s musical expressiveness and its artistic value. Afro Cuban Electronic Jazz is coming from a wide range of cultural and professional backgrounds

He first came into contact with jazz when Dave Brubeck came to Moscow in 1987. 11 years later, he recorded the first live jazz CD ever to be published in Romania (Changes, 1998) along with the Jazz Unit band. The resulting sexted received the Jazz Album of the Year award from the Romanian Union of Composers in 2000 for their album From Now On. Eddie is the mastermind behind the revered Romanian nu-jazz band Blazzaj, for which he wrote music and lyrics. After a short stint in West London, where he played jazz, klezmer and world music with several bands and produced his own electronic music called Electric Vulcans, he relocated to Romania, where he continues touring and recording with various ensembles crossing the jazz and ethnic music realms.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
