Formed in the summer of 2018 in Nashville, Brain Salad was initiated by bassist Ben Griego, who was committed to establishing a jazz fusion group that performed complex works by the likes of Hiromi, The Aristocrats, Mike Stern, and Herbie Hancock. MUSICIAN Born:

Keven Eknes

Following the trend of having the first professional gigs as a early teenager, I debuted my original EP “Extraterrestrial” at 19, and won prestigious awards: PwC Award; G9Alt Award x2; Helgåleiren Guitar Idol; Tom Wilhelmsen Stiftelse x5; Sandnes City Honorary Recognition 2014 in support of my career. As a quintessential musician, I was also a university drop-out at Paul McCartney's LIPA, desiring to chase the “American Dream” starting at Berklee College of Music in 2014. After being offered both the European Tour and the Writing&Composition Scholarship, I became a division award-winner the following year for "Outstanding Musicianship" as selected by faculty, and in 2016 was one-third of the recipients of the prestigious Artist's Diploma (A.D.) among the 950 graduates, closing with a packed arena concert. My journey as a full-time guitarist since have been ranging from recording lead guitar for National Geographic and Liam Ferrari to performing 1000s of shows in multi-million dollar productions and national tours as well as performing at Gardeball (King of Norway's Ball), being selected by Smoky Mountain Opry as their "Best Male Performer" nominee for the IAAPA Brass Ring Award

MUSICIAN Born:

Glen Campbell

Glen Campbell has always felt a divine touch in his life, as if he were given a gift he didn’t earn, but was allowed to use to make people happy and forget their worries for a time. How else do you explain his life, one of the most extraordinary rags to riches stories in popular music history? The 12th child and seventh son of a dirt poor sharecropper born in the depths of the depression on April 22, 1936, Campbell drowned when he was a toddler in the Little Missouri River near his family’s Arkansas home. His lips were blue when he was pulled from the river and those who rescued him believed he was gone

Kandace Springs

Every so often a new singer emerges who’s able to assimilate multiple musical touchstones and still come off sounding remarkably fresh and unburdened by the past. Kandace Springs is one of those artists. The 27-year-old, Nashville-based singer, songwriter and pianist counts such stylists as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Roberta Flack and Norah Jones as her heroes, but as evidenced by her sparkling full-length Blue Note Records debut, Soul Eyes, Springs mimics none of them. Instead Springs allows her comely alto to become a conduit that touches upon soul, jazz and pop while transforming those aforementioned influences into a personalized sound that reveals itself effortlessly

And that’s exactly what they’ve done. La Via takes Contemporary Jazz to the next level. Visit www.laviaband.com and find their music on Spotify, iTunes and your favorite music websites.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
