Musician

Naïssam Jalal

A vertiginous flutist and prolific composer, Naïssam Jalal comes from a fertile background in music fuelled by passion and curiosity. Born in a Parisian suburb of Syrian parents, she assimilated and transcended the essence of European and Arab classical music, the art of jazz improvisation, the urgency of hip-hop, the euphoria of funk and the vitality of traditions from Africa, with a keen sense of synthesis and a hyper- sensitive touch. This fine trajectory has been marked by a number of excellent CD releases and prestigious awards such as the Coup de cœur from the Académie Charles Cros (2017) and the Victoires du Jazz (2019)

Naïssam Jalal: Un autre monde

Some may see the flute as an odd one out in jazz. For France that certainly does not apply. France has Michel Edelin from the older generation and, for example, Magic Malik, Eve Risser, Sylvaine Hélary and Naïssam Jalal from the younger. A flautist needs good sonic allies to embed flute sounds in and/or ...

Is flute an odd one out in the present jazz field? Not really and not at all in France. Part 1 | Part 2 Every year the 'Best-of' game is underway again. But, “best of what?" is the immediate question. It's almost impossible for fishes of prey to hunt in a huge herring swarm, or for birds of prey to hunt in those huge budgerigar swarms. 'The best' is a choice from the ...

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
