Hooray for Beaujolais!

Read "Hooray for Beaujolais!" reviewed by Matt Penman

This region hasn't always had the best reputation, and if you think the wine comes as jugs of thin, insipid juice that they truck out with forced smiles just as it's getting inappropriately cold in Paris, well, sometimes it does. But Beaujolais Nouveau just isn't worth the calories, darling. Spend some time instead exploring the 10 ...

Tobias Meinhart: The Painter

A keen ear for melodic development, a gift for harmonic oversight and the whims for rhythmic intricacy already ...

Chenin Blanc from the Loire

Read "Chenin Blanc from the Loire" reviewed by Matt Penman

The wild Loire river runs from the Atlantic ocean deep into France's center, and there is beautiful, diverse, and historically under-appreciated wine throughout its entire length. Nir Felder: II

Read "II" reviewed by Mike Jacobs

Six years after the release of his solo debut, Golden Age (Okeh, 2014), Nir Felder's follow-up II brings into sharper focus some of the guitarist's more compelling dichotomies as a player. His instrument of choice is the usually more crystalline-sounding Stratocaster but Felder somehow elicits a fatter-than-a-big-ol'-jazz-box tone from it. His style as ...

3x3: Piano Trios, vol. V

Read "3x3: Piano Trios, vol. V" reviewed by Geno Thackara

Nick Sanders Trio Playtime 2050 Sunnyside Records 2019 Nick Sanders understandably sees some turbulence ahead at the midpoint of the century (not to mention the decades leading up to it). Disturbing as this cover may seem, though, he and a couple adventurous trio-mates make sure this speculative portrait keeps its ...
