Channa Riedel is a writer, poet and musician. She recently graduated from the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg and the debut album of her band Beloveds was released in 2019. This year she will begin a master’s in Literary Composition at HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design, and is currently working on her first collection of poems. Beloveds is an ensemble that started in 2016 In Gothenburg, Sweden. Composer and singer Channa Riedel uses poetry in order to create music that is intimate, rugged and beautiful. They find inspiration from music such as Liberation Music Orchestra, Victor Jara, Hanns Eisler as well as Swedish and Jewish folk songs

Angela Turone & Chris Platt

Angela Turone and Chris Platt are Canadian musicians that have been collaborating since 2014. Angela and Chris met in their hometown, Toronto, while completing their studies in the jazz performance program at the University of Toronto. There, they discovered a common love and appreciation for Brazilian music and came together as an ensemble. With Angela on vocals and piano and Chris on guitar, they seek to explore the diverse and beautiful music of Brazil, performing their creative interpretations of repertoire from the bossa nova, samba and jazz genres. Their 2020, FACTOR-funded album Sounds of Brazil is a reflection of Angela and Chris’ deep interest in Brazilian music and how it intertwines with their jazz roots

Her original music is featured in Sky Rojo (Netflix), The Drowning, (starring Julia Stiles and Tracie Thoms), El Juego de Las Llaves, (Ela VeldenMaite Perroniand Marimar Vega), and Romeo y Julieta (starring Lupita Nyong’o and Juan Castano), scored by one of Lauren’s musical partners, Michael Thurber.

Henderson uncovers the layers of her diverse background in English and Spanish.  Her compositions paint stories reflecting journeys imposed through the African Diaspora in  connection to Henderson's Panamanian, Montserratian, and vast Caribbean roots as they interplay with her North American upbringing.

EARLY INFLUENCES:

Henderson began to study piano at an early age. She grew up singing in church and school choirs, as well as listening to jazz records her parents and grandparents played in the house. Timid as a young musician, she was always reluctant to sing solos, until given a gentle push by mentors shortly before heading to Wheaton College (MA) to receive her Bachelor of Arts.

At Wheaton, she discovered her voice, becoming the Musical Director of VUJ, a member of Jazz Band, studying classical voice and musical theatre, as well as finding inspiration from her professors and master classes with artists like Paquito D’Rivera, Take6, and the legendary Barry Harris at the Barry Harris Workshop

Having earned degrees in both Music and Hispanic Studies, Lauren combined her love of music and culture while living in Puebla, México. In Mexico she studied the traditional music of the Yucatán and popular music throughout the country at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. Through her international piano and voice studies, she worked on developing her musicianship. In Córdoba, España she studied flamenco and its connections to jazz at La Universidad de Córdoba

As the Founder and CEO of Brontosaurus Records, Lauren Henderson graduated with an Executive MBA from Brown University (RI) and the IE Business School (Madrid) in May of 2019.

Mary Amaral is a Brazilian singer songwriter whose work is composed of her influences, mainly classic jazz songs and R& B, combined in an original way with elements she received from Tom Jobim's Bossa Nova, João Gilberto and guitarrist Baden Powell's Afro Sambas with Vinícius de Moraes, among other Brazilian Classics. Mary is also a composer /lyricist, and is releasing her Ep of Brazilian Jazz, called Delineio.
