Jonah Tolchin: Fires From The Cold

by Doug Collette
Jonah Tolchin's fourth solo album, Fires For The Cold, boasts some notable selling points, but ultimately stands on its own terms as an estimable, if somewhat narrowly circumscribed, piece of work. The vocal contributions of Jackson Browne and Rickie Lee Jones buttress the delicacy of the recording's predominantly acoustic textures, as does the artist's discerning inclusion ...
Gregg Allman: Laid Back Deluxe Edition

by Doug Collette
Gregg Allman's first solo album, Laid Back (Capricorn, 1973), is the ideal candidate for a Deluxe Edition reissue and remaster. Not only is the record an exquisite, one-of-a-kind piece of work in its original form, but the backstory is eminently worth telling as it sheds light not only on the creation of the album itself, but ...
Jackson Browne: Running On Empty: 2019 Remaster

by Doug Collette
There is no other album quite like Running On Empty in Jackson Browne's discography. But then, there may be no other album comparable in contemporary rock: it is an absolutely unflinching portrait of an artist looking for a connection to the muse and only fleetingly establishing one. In a sense, this 1977 album resides at the ...
Tal Wilkenfeld: Love Remains

Prior to the release of Love Remains, Australian-born Tal Wilkenfeld may have been best known for her talent on the bass in the company of Jeff Beck circa Live at Ronnie Scott's (Eagle Video, 2008). Various Artists The US Festival 1982 MVD Entertainment Group 2018 By title alone, The US Festival of 1982 might seem light years removed from the abiding fascination with festivals now pervading our culture. Mai Leisz (pronounced Lease) is a bassplayer and composer from the shadowland of the North: post-soviet country, Estonia, where she was born and raised. In 2010 she made the move to Sweden where she honed her craft as an electric bass player and composer. She started gaining wider exposure with her own jazz- fusion group MaiGroup as well as freelancing with different jazz bands and pop artists. Her tireless work ethic, melodic bass playing and versatility has raised her name among the world’s top musicians. Mai is hailed as a music chameleon, moving effortlessly from pop, folk and country to jazz and blues. In June 2015 she had couple of days off touring and was busking in the old town Stockholm with a veteran singer-songwriter Doug Seegers, when one of her favorite musicians in the world, multi- instrumentalist Greg Leisz - on tour with Jackson Browne - happened to walk by
Calexico all'Alcatraz di Milano

by Luca Muchetti
King Crimson: Sailors' Tales 1970-1972

by John Kelman
If it's a fundamental truth that adversity can sometimes bring the absolute best, creatively speaking, out of music and the people who make it, then the roughly 23 months following the release of King Crimson's classic 1969 debut, In the Court of the Crimson King (Island)--and, after a single North American tour, the breakup of its ...
