Trondheim Jazz Orchestra & Espen Berg: Maetrix
by Chris May
Lana and Lilly Wachowski's The Matrix (1999)--an inspiration for Norwegian pianist and composer Espen Berg's Maetrix--divides opinion. The movie is regarded by some, including one assumes Berg, as a prescient masterpiece addressing the existential threat posed to humanity by digital technology. Others say it is pretentious twaddle. Berg has since released two more albums ...

One ...

Bridges With Seamus Blake: Continuum
by Roger Farbey
The follow-up to Bridges' eponymous debut album (AMP Music & Records, 2016) is no less spectacular an affair. It sports the same line-up as before with the exception of Jesper Bodilsen now taking over bass duties from Ole Morten Vågan. Once again Seamus Blake leads this group of Norway-based musicians to great success. Not a lot ...
