Mario Bakuna

Mario Bakuna is a London-based Brazilian composer, singer and guitar player, with over fiftteen years of professional experience. He is a graduate of the Free University of Music in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Whilst there he studied with musicians such as: Olmir Stocker, Roberto Sion and Roberto Bomilcar (pianist who played with Frank Sinatra during his visit to Brazil). Mario has worked alongside the trombonist Itacir Bocato, guitarist Renato Consorte, and other big names from the São Paulo music scene. His study focusses on afro-brazilian music, Jazz and Bossa Nova. In addition to developing new arrangements of music by enshrined Brazilian artists as Tom Jobim, Paulo Moura, and João Donato, in recent years he has been focussing to reinterpretations of Samba Jazz - a music that emerged in Rio de Janeiro in the 50s and was pioneered by musicians like Luiz Eça, Tamba Trio, Edson Machado, among others

Koji Yoneyama

Koji is a New York-based guitar player and composer with a background in jazz, rock, Funk, Soul, and pop. He was born and raised in Osaka, Japan in 1987, graduated from Osaka University of Arts with a Bachelors in Music. Koji started playing guitar at the age of 11 and won first prize in the for Best Guitarist in the 2005 Fresh Musician Championship in Osaka. At 21 he began studying Jazz under professors Sadao Ikeda, Takashi Nakamura who teach at Osaka University of Arts. To continue his progress upon graduation, Koji studied with the legendary Kazuhiko Takeda. Since moving to New York City, Koji also had the opportunity to study with Pasquale Grasso. After graduating, Koji worked at many venues in the Osaka area as a professional session guitarist

Machrijam is the artist name of Martin Connolly. From Belfast, Ireland. Resident in Japan since early 1990s. Married. Two sons. Present status: Professor at a university in Yokohama, Japan. Has published on James Joyce, medieval literature & contemporary Irish lit, plus in other areas. Has also published a number of works of creative writing, novel, poetry, stories. Released 'Machrijam', debut album in 2015. Will release new album this year. Solo artist. All compositions original.

Jason Newsom is a solo guitarist and vocalist from Portland, Ore. His unique slap-funk guitar approach has been called “absorbing” (Jazznow.com) and his compositions have been described as “supremely funky” (The Oregonian), “fresh and innovative” (JazzReview.com), and “full of smart melodies” (Jazz Society of Oregon). He is the bandleader and composer for the funk jazz group Anomalous Quintet, which has released three CDs of original music Born in 1965 in Kansas City, Mo, he did not begin playing guitar until age 20. Although he was self-taught for many years, he later studied guitar privately in Phoenix, AZ and studied harmony, arranging, and jazz guitar at the University of Pittsburgh School of Music

John began playing guitar in 1930. When he was 10 he and his brother were on the Major Bowes Original Amateur Hour. Performed with the Shep Fields Orchestra between 1945-1950. The Shep Fields Orchestra did a 1945 USO tour of Europe. Spent the year 1947 playing in Las Vegas. Was on the Perry Como (Chesterfield Supper Club) as a member of the Shep Fields Sextet. Played on 2 albums by Hugo Montenegro "Loves of My Life" and "Ellington Fantasy" Both were recorded at Webster Hall in 1957. Also played on Tito Puente's album, "Mucho Puente". John studied with Lennie Tristano for 10 years. As he described, "I learned Major, Minor, Harmonic, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, octaves, 9, 10, 11 scales in all the keys all the way up and all the way down and all their chords."
