Kiki Valera
Born:
Son cubano is one of the most popular musical styles in Cuba and Kiki Valera is one of its foremost exponents. Over the last century, this style of traditional Cuban music has contributed to many other genres of music including jazz, cha cha cha, mambo, salsa, songo and timba. Cuban son is the music that made the Buena Vista Social Club worldwide stars in the late 1990s but Kiki Valera comes from a family of musicians whose involvement with Cuban son pre-dates the BVSC by decades.
Kiki Valera is the oldest son of the famous La Familia Valera Miranda septet, a multi-generational traditional music group from Santiago de Cuba. Since the 19th century, La Familia Valera Miranda has played a significant role in Cuban culture by collecting and preserving the deep-rooted traditions of the legendary Sierra Maestra mountain region. Their debut album, ANTOLOGÍA INTEGRAL DEL SON, released in 1982, helped initiate the explosion of interest in traditional Cuban music.

Jimmy Cliff
Born:
The GRAMMY® Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® Inductee, musician, actor, singer, songwriter, producer, and humanitarian attributes it to something befitting of tales passed down through the ages—yet all too ignored today—“Magic.”
“I feel like there’s something magical about everything,” he smiles. “When my mother was pregnant, she had such a huge stomach that everyone thought she was carrying triplets! That’s why people initially said I was special. In school, I was already doing magic tricks. I don’t know how I learned them. I could also read palms. Nobody taught me how to do that either. There are so many stories like that in my life. The fact that I came out of that hurricane felt significant to me.”

Keven Eknes
Born:
Following the trend of having the first professional gigs as a early teenager, I debuted my original EP “Extraterrestrial” at 19, and won prestigious awards: PwC Award; G9Alt Award x2; Helgåleiren Guitar Idol; Tom Wilhelmsen Stiftelse x5; Sandnes City Honorary Recognition 2014 in support of my career. As a quintessential musician, I was also a university drop-out at Paul McCartney's LIPA, desiring to chase the “American Dream” starting at Berklee College of Music in 2014. After being offered both the European Tour and the Writing&Composition Scholarship, I became a division award-winner the following year for "Outstanding Musicianship" as selected by faculty, and in 2016 was one-third of the recipients of the prestigious Artist's Diploma (A.D.) among the 950 graduates, closing with a packed arena concert. My journey as a full-time guitarist since have been ranging from recording lead guitar for National Geographic and Liam Ferrari to performing 1000s of shows in multi-million dollar productions and national tours as well as performing at Gardeball (King of Norway's Ball), being selected by Smoky Mountain Opry as their "Best Male Performer" nominee for the IAAPA Brass Ring Award
