Will Matthews
Kansas City native Will Matthews is the guitarist for the world famous Count Basie Orchestra, joining the group in 1996 under the direction of trombonist Grover Mitchell to fill the coveted chair of the late legendary guitarist and composer, Freddie Green who was with the band for over fifty years. Matthews has traveled and toured all over the world and has played on many studio recordings with the group, including two 'Grammy' winning recordings, Count Basie Orchestra Live at Manchester Guild in 1997 and Count Plays Duke 1999, as well as the 'Grammy' nominated recording Swing Shift in 2000 The Guitarist has played every major festival, concert hall and theatre in the world and has also had the opportunity to play one-nighters with a variety of artists coming through Kansas City such as Charles Earland, Freda Payne, Arthur Prysock, Jimmy Witherspoon, Carmen Bradford, Kevin Mahogany, and Bobby Watson. In 1996 Matthews was invited to perform at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, Thailand for King Bhumbibol, along with other members of the Basie Orchestra, Benny Carter and Frank Foster

He studied with some of Chile's most important guitarists from the 90's; Paulo Paranhos, Pedro and Mauricio Rodriguez, and, for a longer period, with Jorge Diaz. Reyes cites Wes Montgomery, John Scofield, Joe Pass and Kurt Rosenwinkel as clear influences on his style. He belongs to a generation of soloist that sprung up in the first half of this decade; Cristóbal Menares, Nicolás Vera, Sebastian Prado and Gabriel Feller, with whom he led a powerful post bop quartet, with two electric guitars

Chris Flegg

Chris Flegg is based in St Albans, Herts and not only plays jazz guitar but is a singer songwriter on the acoustic and folk scene with three albums of original songs to date, the latest being The Sound Of Life. Previous jazz recordings include Moving On, an album of original pieces for jazz quartet, in which John Rees-Jones also features on bass. Chris mainly performs locally in St Albans with sax and bass in a jazz context or solo as a singer guitarist. He runs a monthly jazz jam session and enjoys charity busking in support of the British Heart Foundation. Chris Flegg was born in Eastleigh, Hampshire which is situated five miles north of the coastal city of Southampton. A self taught musician, like so many in the sixties, Chris learned to play guitar using Bert Weedon’s “Play In A Day”
