Greg Boland

Greg Boland (b.1955) is one of Ireland’s most experienced touring and recording guitarists. Best known as a collaborative and session musician, he has worked with many critically acclaimed bands and artists.

Greg’s career began in the 1970's as a member of Jazz / Rock band ‘Supply Demand & Curve’ following which he played with the legendary ‘Stagalee’, Ireland’s most successful ‘Soul / Funk’ band.

During this period he also established himself as a very busy studio session guitarist, playing on scores of Albums, Singles, Demos, Jingles, TV / Film Themes and Soundtracks.

As a member of 'Scullion' he enjoyed success on the acoustic music and festival circuit of the early 1980's, recording four albums. In the mid 80's he co-formed ‘Bumper to Bumper’ a sophisticated R & B outfit, the members of which included some of Dublin’s top studio session players. His role as a session player has also led to much Theatre and TV work. He has also been / is a member of the bands : Moving Hearts, Davy Spillane Band, The Big Noise, and Steely Dan tribute bands Naked Lunch and Aja.

Greg has toured and / or recorded with :- Sonny Condell, Freddie White, Bill Whelan, Carole King, Bono, Dolores Keane, Mary Coughlan, Fleadh Cowboys, Leo Sayer, Christy Moore, (Moya Brennan, Steve Winwood, Sinead O'Connor w. Davy Spillane), Mary Stokes, Donal Lunny, Sean Tyrell, Nigel Rolfe, Shaun Davey, Rita Connolly, Stockton’s Wing, Midnite Well, Maura O’Connell, Henry McCullough, Frances Black, The Black Family, The Bards, Red Hurley, Johnny Logan, Jimmy Mc Carthy, Liam Merriman, Eoin O'Meachair, The Houseshakers, Tommy Fleming, Applecore Band, NCO, NSO, RTE etc.

Greg is currently working as a producer / arranger and session guitarist. This work incorporates his knowledge and experience of computer music technology. He has also had experience in music education ranging from private individual lessons, seminars and workshops. Greg has instructed in music arranging in the Arts Department at Ballyfermot College of Further Education.

Greg was the innaugural president of the Musicians Union of Ireland, and served in that post from 2003 to 2007.
