Estrella Acosta

Cuban vocalist Estrella Acosta is one of the most versatile Latin American singers living in Europe. Though she has never stopped singing the folk songs of her motherland, she is equally at home embracing various Brazilian and jazz idioms. With her warm earthy voice she creates an energetic yet intimate and personal style, rooted in the sounds of her native Cuba. She has left a travel footprint that truly makes her a citizen of the world. Born in Havana, she got to know the traditional music during her childhood with her family in the province of Matanzas. After completing a degree in cultural anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin and studying vocal technique, she set out to pursue her musical dreams in a journey that took her to Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, New York City and, finally, Amsterdam, where she now resides. Estrella has recorded four albums and a single for the label eStar that have won internationally acclaim, including a nomination for a Dutch Edison

Esquina 25 brings together top international musicians from Cuba, Venezuela, Germany, the USA and the Netherlands. They create an original view of Cuban music in a wide spectrum of styles - son, bolero, rumba, guajira, trova, Afro-Cuban jazz and Lucumí chants, performed with plenty of room for creativity and improvisation, and with respect for the tradition. The music of Esquina 25 pays tribute to the cultural variety that characterizes a Havana street corner where many Cuban writers, musicians and other culture bearers have met and inspired each other over the years - likewise, the band is a meeting point between musicians from different cultures, between Latin and jazz, between tradition and inventivity.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
