Brian Landrus

Born: September 14, 1978

After 12 albums as a leader, multi-instrumentalist and composer Dr. Brian Landrus has become an internationally recognized low woodwind artist. Landrus specializes on the low woodwind family, specifically: baritone saxophone, bass saxophone, bass clarinet, contra alto clarinet, alto flute, and bass flute. As a composer, Landrus has written for solo instrument to symphony orchestra.

Landrus consistently places in the critics polls of the year in Downbeat Magazine and JazzTimes International Critics Polls.  Landrus was awarded “Rising Star” in the 2021 for bass clarinet and 2015 for baritone. Landrus’ 2020 release For Now, was chosen as Editor’s Pick in both Downbeat and JazzTimes. Landrus’ 25-piece orchestral album Generations, was named one of the best recordings of the year by NPR, Downbeat Magazine, JazzTimes, All About Jazz, Jazziz, Boston Globe and many other international publications. The New York Times wrote “With Generations, Mr. Landrus takes the jazz big band tradition into the mesosphere.”  

Paul Cutlan

Born: July 17, 1964

Paul’s uniquely expressive voice as a multi-instrumentalist and composer is informed by many styles, including contemporary classical music, world music and jazz. He graduated from the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music in 1987 with Honours in Composition. Orchestral performance experience includes the Tasmanian and Sydney Symphony Orchestras and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Paul has performed with many jazz/improvising groups committed to presenting original Australian music. International acts with whom he has performed include Lou Reed, Bobby Previte, Jim McNeely, Ólafur Arnalds, Jerry Lewis and Michael Bublé

Premik Russell Tubbs

Born: August 3, 1952

Premik Russell Tubbs, a composer, arranger, producer and an accomplished multi-instrumentalist performs on various flutes, soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, wind synthesizers, and lap steel guitar. Premik has worked with everyone from Carlos Santana, Whitney Houston, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Ravi Shankar, Narada Michael Walden, Clarence Clemons, Ornette Coleman, Jackson Browne, Jean-Luc Ponty, Lonnie Liston-Smith, Scarlet Riveria, James Taylor, Sting and Lady Gaga just to name a few. He is equally adept in pop, R&B, jazz, world and experimental genres. Raised in Thailand, Uganda, and Germany, Lotz’s musical journey has always been global. His collaborations extend far beyond jazz, encompassing world music, theater, performance and visual arts, film, dance, and live visuals. As an improviser and composer, he continuously pushes the expressive possibilities of his instrument, blending the aesthetics and techniques of contemporary and classical music with the energy of jazz.

Karlton E Hester

Born: 1949

Karlton E. Hester, Ph.D. (composer/flutist/saxophonist), began his career as a composer and recording artist in Los Angeles where he worked as a studio musician and music educator. He received his Ph.D. in composition from the City University of New York Graduate Center and is currently Director of "Jazz" Studies at the University of California in Santa Cruz. As performer on both flute and saxophone, he is music director of the Fillmore Jazz Preservation Big Band and Hesterian Musicism. Hester is currently music director of Hesterian Musicism, founding director of the Fillmore Jazz Preservation Big Band in San Francisco and served as the Herbert Gussman Director of Jazz Studies at Cornell University from 1991-2001

Chip Shelton

CHIP SHELTON With incredible talent and perseverance, Chip Shelton has earned an undisputed reputation as one of the most renowned flutists in the world of jazz. And in recent years he has established himself as a formidable saxophonist as well. What separates Shelton from most other bandleaders is his ability as a multi-instrumentalist. He utilizes the entire woodwind family. Saxes include Tenor, Alto, Soprano, and Sopranino, all by the Yanagasawa Company which Shelton endorses. Flutes include the tiny piccolo, Bb flute, concert flute in C, alto flute, bass flute,contra-bass flute, and the Wesley End-Blown flute (custom fitted so it can be played in a saxophone position), Recently Shelton has added clarinet and bass clarinet to his practice sessions. His varied arsenal sometmes includes percussion, piano, or the unique C-tenor, and C-soprano saxes..

Fredrik Lundin

Born: April 7, 1963

Saxophonist, flutist, composer and band leader Fredrik Lundin is one of the major jazz profiles of his generation in Scandinavia. Since arriving on the Danish Jazz scene in 1981 this elegant and explosive musician has been searching relentlessly into the realms of contemporary music, respecting no boundaries. A truly original and virtuoso voice, performing in bands around Europe and Scandinavia, such as his own Offpiste Gurus, 5 Go Adventuring Again, the 13 piece MaLuBa Orchestra, which he co-leads with Marilyn Mazur and Kasper Bai, and with Marilyn Mazur Group, Jon Balke Magnetic North Orchestra and Carsten Dahl.
