Paul Unger

Paul Unger is currently the Assistant Principal Bass of theFort Worth Symphony Orchestra.An accomplished bassist and composer, Mr. Unger’s versatileabilities have allowed him to appear as a featured soloist withthe Fort Worth/ Dallas Ballet, the Fort Worth SymphonyOrchestra and the Mimir Chamber Music Festival. His diverseabilities have also allowed him to perform and/or record with such diverseartists as Elle King, Cheryl Bentyne, Byron Stripling, Bobby Shew, Bob Newhart, Bernadette Peters, Jay Clayton, Peggy Stern, Ricki Derek, Montango, Andrea Bocelli and The Who.Paul was instructor of Double Bass at TCU from 2005-2007and is currently performs with internationally recognized singer, Suzi Stern and guitarist Tom Reynolds. Mr. Unger is also a member of thecritically acclaimed jazz group, “Flipside”. A group referred to inCadence magazine as “contemporary jazz at its best”, “exhilaratingand challenging music making that is rarely dull. A band not to bemissed”.In 2015, Mr. Unger won two awards from the Fort Worth Weekly.One for “Best Bassist” and one for Flipside as “Best Jazz Group.”

Jason Bertone
Born:
Jason Bertone is a double bassist who calls Brooklyn, New York home. Bertone uncovered a serious interest in music during his early teenage years, switching from snare drum to bass guitar late in middle school. He began improvising (as well as being involved in choral music) in his native New Jersey, and upon completing high school chose to attend Hampshire College for its innovative academic program that would allow him to combine his interests in music and the social sciences. Bertone took a serious interest in jazz and American folk music and began playing the double bass. He moved to New York City in 2008 in hopes of furthering his career as a writer but gravitated back to music, becoming involved in the city's folk, gypsy and trad jazz scenes

Mykle L. Lyons
Mykle Lyons grew up in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, (just outside of New Orleans, Louisiana). During his youth he and his father would venture to New Orleans to hear the vast live music in and around the city. After hearing bassist "Pops" Foster at an early age, Mykle was enchanted with playing the acoustic bass. The great Ray Brown proved to be the knock-out punch for him choosing the bass as his primary instrument. In college, Mykle was fortunate enough to study Jazz with the great Ellis Marsalis for three years. Since then, Mr. Lyons has performed with such notables as: •Wynton, Ellis, Branford, Delfeyo, and Jason Marsalis •Don Braden •Lou Tabakken •Ralph Bowen •Vincent Herring •Wes Anderson •Eric Alexander •Victor Goines Mr Lyons recorded with Wynton Marsalis for the Peabody Award Winning National Public Radio Series, "The Making of the Music"

Ira Coleman
Ira Coleman was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Raised in Southern France, Ira thereafter lived in Germany for fourteen years. While in Germany, Ira Coleman studied double bass at Cologne’s “Hochschule für Musik” and subsequently came a move to the US to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. “I have very strong ties to Europe,” says Ira who is fluent in French and German. “My mother was Swedish and a famous silversmith and designer, and my father was a painter and graphic artist from Baltimore. The place to go was Paris. My parents met many expatriate artists, writers and musicians.” Among visitors to Ira’s childhood home were Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Charlie Mingus and Chester Himes

Josh Levine
Born:
Josh Levine is a bassist, singer and composer born and raised in Manhattan. Josh graduated from Stuyvesant High School, played for The All City High School Jazz Ensemble and was awarded dual Bachelors degrees in Biology and Jazz Double Bass Performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music. Several years as the house bassist with the Cotton Club All-Stars under the direction of Eddie and Al Pasante gave Josh a firm foundation in swing. As a member of Los Acustilocos, Josh was schooled in Venezuelan music by Roberto Fuentes, formerly the director the acclaimed Venezuelan musical theater comedy group La Alpargata Cantorum. As the bassist for the Cuban son trio Son Amigos, Josh was tutored in Cuban music by José Luis Martínez, a founding member of Cuba’s Los Van Van. Josh maintains an enduring partnership with veteran blues and ragtime guitarist Frank Schaap, who is portrayed by Steve Earle on the HBO series Tremé. Josh is a regular teacher for the Preschool Summer Camp at The Ballet Hispanico

Dan Dougherty (Bass): Grew up as third generation Irish traditional musician, discovered jazz in the '90s. Enjoys performing in highly structured Big Bands (Hailstones, Philly) and spontaneous, smaller ensembles (Sweetbriar Jazz). Influences are Ray Brown, NHOP, Scott LaFarro. Studied double bass with Howard Britz.

Rick Rosato

Originally from Montreal, Rick Rosato moved to New York City in 2007 to study at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. He quickly became one of the most in-demand jazz bassists and has been maintaining an international performance schedule since. In 2010, he led a three-month-long artist series at the Upstairs Jazz Club in Montreal, where he formed several different groups featuring some of today’s most influential voices in jazz, including the co-led trio “Stranahan/Zaleski/Rosato”. In the summer of 2014, Rick competed for the TD Jazz Awards at the Montreal International Jazz Festival with his own trio and won the Galaxie Jazz Award for best composition

Rob Paterson

Rob Paterson is a freelance electric and double bass player working and living in London, UK. Since studying jazz at MDX university with Chris Batchelor and Nikki Iles, Rob has gone on to perform with many great musicians both in the UK and in numerous European tours. Ed Harrison

Ed Harrison is one of the north west's most accomplished and respected jazz bassists. He studied music at Manchester University, giving him the classical training behind his brilliant improvisation. Ed has lived in London and Prague, making his mark on the jazz scene in both these cities. He is now based between Manchester and Liverpool, travelling all round the region to play jazz. He also heads Aquarius Jazz ( www.aquariusjazz.co.uk ) which provides entertainment for weddings and corporate events.
