Mark Tokar originally studied classical guitar at S. Lyudkevych Music College. During this time he began to play double bass, which became his main instrument.During 2002-2004 he repeatedly participated in the Krakow Jazz Workshop, directed by M. Parkinson (USA).In 2006, via the “Gaude Polonia” scholarship program, Mark studied at K. Szymanowski Jazz Academy under the direction of Professor Jacek Niedzela. The program was granted by the Minister of Culture in Poland.Since 2006 he has given private lessons at various jazz schools.During 2005-2006 Mark worked as art director of the Ukrainian-Polish Jazz Bez festival

On the heels of a 38yr career in studio recording as composer-arranger-producer creating music for IMAX, CBC-TV, Solitudes and numerous educational music programs for kids, having had over 7000 of his arrangements recorded, and having been honoured with several JUNO nominations for his work, Howard, a Warkworth resident, has changed musical direction. Previously a keyboardist, trumpet player and conductor, Howard now enjoys playing various styles of music:  jazz, swing, blues, country, bluegrass, R&B, folk and classical …as an upright bassist.  His main focus has been playing in various jazz configurations and coordinating music presentations for dining venues, festivals, weddings & special events

Swing Noir takes you back to the early 20th century, with music from the 1930's, through to the 1960's. The trio perform a mixture of swing, jazz and early popular music, with a strong gypsy jazz influence. They combine the acoustic sounds of Jim Knowler on guitar/vocals, Serena Sykes on vocals/double bass and Jonny Hepbir on guitar, bringing a smooth sound, rich with vocal harmonies. With music from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby, to Mel Torme, Judy Garland and Doris Day, and with influences from musicians such as Django Reinhardt, Ray Brown and Barney Kessel, Swing Noir are a band to watch out for.

Born in Morocco August 1946, moved to France at 6, Jazz music entered in my life when I was 13 years old, listening to New Orleans and Blues music. At 16, I opened my mind to all types of Jazz and when the first opportunity to be an actor occured, I started a jazz club in Aix en Provence 1979, Hot Brass. Then in Paris La Villette fr0m 1993 to 1997 (a 600 seats jazz club now named Trabendo) and Avignon in 2002. From the first time I never lefted live stages , and started to learn and practice double bass in 1989, just because jazz became my way of life.

After several Hot Brass jazz clubs (Aix, Paris La Villette and Avignon) until 2005, I started booking clubs, restaurants, theater and festivals and also perform since 1997 in a trio French Sumo, which is my main band still now

Enzo Torregrossa started jazz and classical studies at the same time. He took inspiration from John Coltrane, Charlie Mingus and mainly from Miles Davis who is still his artistic father and point of reference in his expressive and compositive work. He attended Master Bruno Tommaso’s “Siena Jazz” seminaries from 1980 to 1983. In 1982 he obtained the “Diploma di Laurea in contrabbasso” (“Degree in contrabass”) with Master Sebastiano Nicotra at the Academy of Music “Vincenzo Bellini” in Catania and attended the course of “Orchestra Composition and Art direction” in Bologna. Meanwhile he broadened his knowledge of his music studies by means of “Dik Groove” and “Barkley School”’s textbooks
